Up to Wednesday afternoon a total of $2,334.50 had been
received by the United War Chest drive for the Rusk area.
That is an average of $233.45 per day for the first ten
days of the drive.
In order for Rusk to attain its quota it will be necessary
for Rusk to maintain an average of $511.97 per day for
the last three days of the campaign which ends Saturday
night.
If everybody who received a letter contributes as request-
ed, the quota will be attained, with very little for good
measure. For justifiable reasons, some may be unable to
subscribe as much as the committee suggested, but quite
a number are going far over the amount suggested and
it is hoped there will be enough of these to take care of
any loss through absolutely necessary curtailment of con-
tributions.
We on the home front are not asked to sacrifice our lives,
but we are asked to provide in this way for boys who are
or will be on the firing line. Practically all our fears of
bombings have passed, but we can help those who have
been bombed. We have no fears of hunger, but this is par-
tially for starving children. We admit China deserves
our admiration, but admiration means little to a mother-
less waif, whose father is at the fighting front. Our only
confinement is caused by lack of gasoline and tires, but
part of this fund goes to help boys looking towards Amer-
ica through the barbed wire of foreign war prison camps.
