Allen Academy as a
training school for boys has
steadily advanced from the
time of its establishment eleven
years ago.
During the year just past wc
enrolled boys from six states
and from ninety-two towns
and cities.
That our pupils are ambi-
tious and successful is shown
by the fact that Allen Acad-
emy boys were last year pur-
suing courses of study in the
following institutions of higher
learning: The University of
Texas The A. & M. College of
Texas The Galveston Medical
College Southwestern Univer-

sity University of Georgia
University of Iowa University
of Pennsylvania and West

Sixty of the cadets at the

only a fraction of macadam; all that
Is necessary is to mix the sand and
clay in proper proportions and main-
tain a convex roadbed' with side
ditches to drain oft the water. There
is abundant material everywhere in
Brazos county for making such roads
and scarcely any grading is necessary.
ftrUkli A NOTE OF THIS FACT
The civic league of Franklin in or-
der to arouse in Interest In its work
has inaugurated a series of Joint de-
bates in which matters pertaining to
the public welfare are discussed. The
next subject for discussion Is: Should
bachelors bo taxed? The texercises
are varied with readings and recita-
tions and though the Texan does not
mention it we suppose they have mu-
sic. Here is a hint for fyie Bryan

Today we went to the Albert .Memo

sits on :i high throne and his figure
is made of bronze. There are four
corners a little below him. One rep-
resents agriculture the others repre-
sent manufacturing engineering and
commerce. A little back of chese carv-

great men of the world such as Ten-

old palace still shows Queen Victo

piano also stands there. Although it
is old it Is good as new. It is long
and old fashioned. One of the great-
est pictures hanging there on the wall
is "Peter the Great" by O. Kneller.
