Dr. S. L. Ingham.
Several years ago there came
to this place from an Iowa town
a man who wasaccepting Haracc
(Ireelys advice about going west
to build up with t he country. He
has built well since lie came here.
That man is Dr. S. L. Ingham.

satisfactory here that no other
dentist has ever had eiicou ra ge
ment enough to locate hce

Dr. I nfrham by keen foresight
has possibly one of the most
ideal kind of farms near this city
that a man could want. While
lie is not a farmer still he was
raised upon the farm and knows
that business from the back end
of the plow clear on up to the top
of the business. His farm lies
about a mile east of this city a
portion of it is valley land the
remainder beinej upland. He

i Dr. Ingham is not what would
! be termed a trader but he is
i careful in his business dealings
i generous when charity calls.
I most popular with those who
know him. and above all is pro-
gressive in advancement of the
interests of the city. He has
; been a member of the city coun-
cil I'm' several years and his ser-
vice as chairman of the street

: well rendered as the condition

'testily.
The Texas Land Company.
Durinr the yreat rush for
choice lands in the last few years
and which still continues per
haps no tirtn has done better
service in making it possible for
investors to secure holding eas-
ily and cheaply than has the Tex-
as Land Company .of. this . city.
They are extensive dealers and
reach out for lare tracts at rea-
sonable prices which they put
upon the market in lare or
small subdivisions asking only
a fair profit for services and
expenses.
The members of the firm have
lived here lontf enough to j;ive
purchasers the benefit of their
experience for less than it would
cost individual purchasers to p
alone pay his own expenses and
then not know how or where to
to K''t the best for his monev.
T. H. Rowan has been here about
Is years and knows all parts of
the Panhandle country. K. L
Faulkner has resided here about
the same length of time and for
Few
many years was in the cattle
business until the cattlemen had
to izive way to the demands of
the farmer who needed the tine
rrazine; lands for homes. He is
equally well informed as toprices
and conditions.
They have all arrangements
for sleeping car services and
excursion rates every two weeks
for prospectors who wish to look
at their land or to see the coun
t ry in jreneral. They own a line
of motor cars in which they take
their people out to see lands.
At one time a picture of which
is shown in this paper this firm
had I lii customers to come with
them and their employees on
one train. Those they brine;
oyncrallv like the countrv ami
the manners in which things
have been represented and they
usually buy before ret u mine;
home. Their buyers come most-
ly from Nebraska. Iowa and
Missouri but a yreat many come
from other states. The men
shown in view purchased loo.unu
acres fromthis firm and all were
well pleased with the land the
price and the manner in which
the business was conducted.
The Bonton Confectionery.
Ainone; the new and up-to date
things that Canyon City enter-
prise is noted for is the new con-
fectionery and refreshment par-
lor of Robert Harrell. He has
spared no pains or expense in
order to make it attractive and
to equip it the best manner pos-
sible for catering to the trade in
a first class manner. His new
fountain is said to be the best in
thePanhandle. It is of onyx mar-
ble and rosewood with plate glass
mirror electric illuminations and
with enamel lined jars for the
fruit juices and syrups. A pic-
ture cannot be made that will do
justice to this art work therefore
you should just drop in and see
it and while then1 take a refresh
ing drink from this cool audi
sparkling Mow. a drink that is j
equal to "the nectar of the j
;ds." The refreshment parlor!
is furnished with polished tables
anil chairs and choice creams:
and drink's are brought to you in
silver service. Fresh candies.
confections. fruit s. nuts and
souvenirs are always on hand.
Smokers' floods tobacco and
cigars of the best kind are ai-o
sold.
Lreat credit is due to the

is arranged throughout the store

fect order prevails in the trans
action of their very large busi-
ness. .). C. Pipkin is the head official
of the concern and has planned
ami worked for years to per-
fect this modern store and st ill
gives it his personal attention.
R. (i. t Hdham. the vico-presi
dent has been identified with the
business since its inception and
is a good business man his por-
tion of the affairs being to look-
mainly after the hardware and
implement departments in which
he has made a success having
given it special thought and at-
tention.
Robert s. Pipkin is the treas-
urer of the company and has
chargeofthe dry goods depart -
ment. He does the principal
part of the buying in that great j
department and makes frequent
trips to eastern markets in order
that he may know exactly what
is the latest style and to secure
the best prices on the goods that
are desired.
Kd. W. Pipkin looks after the
office work and for this depart-
ment he is peculiarly adapted be-
ing thoroughly capable and ex-
tremely accurate in keeping of
the accounts of the business.
The business
of this concern
has developed so much that the
stockholders in the Mercantile
company have recently organized
a similar business which they
have installed at Hapoyand which
is enjoying a similar amount of
business as the parent house all
things being considered.

J. A. Edwards Farmer
F.lsewhciv in this edition we
show the elegant large home of
.1. A. Kdwards who lives just at
the western edge of this city.
His home is surrounded by a
large tract of land good outbuild-
ings and it shows a general air
of prosperity. Mr. Kdwards
I came here when lands were sell-
ling at about Si'.."iO per acre and
his judgment at that time was
that the country would eventu-
ally become a great farming sec-
tion and he therefore invested
all his limited means in the soil
of the Plains going in debt to a
large extent in order that he
might more readily secure the
inevitable increase in value of the
land when the rise came. His
judgment was good except that
the increase came sooner and
was much larger than he had ex-
pected. My these investments
Mr. Kdwards has accumulate a
great deal of "this world's goods"
and is now enabled to live com
fortably without the hard labor
upon which he was forced to rely
in his early struggles for a foot-
hold. Some of the eastern and north
ern papers are deliberately falsi
lying the conditions regarding
the Panhandle. They have awak-
ened to the fact that people are
moving to the Panhandle faster
than tin y are coming into their
own home countrv and these
j papers are endeavoring to stem
the tld.
