NOW IS THE TIME.
State Health Officer Brumby has d
clured quarantine against Mexico on
a- count of yellow fever. This remind
vs again that at various places about
Nuvasota there are numerous watv
ides needing attention from th
tlieet department. Beaumont oil li
cially used is a terror to mosquitoes
and whore proper drainage is not
easily accomplished oil should by all
u.tans be used. There is consider-
.llo slow fever sickness right now and
a general cleaning up crusade and
llcnty of oil would prove very bent;-

DEATH.
(By J. M. Carnes.)
'ihree years ago a vision came to me
Out of the darkness of the unseen
world ;
The walls of my small room had
ceased to lie
The roof had vanished where the
idghl sky curled
Darkness had spread a canopy .o
thick
That not one ray of light could fil-
ter through
.'ot e'en the smallest spark on
smouldering wick
Of burnt out taper marred night's
styglan hue.
Ytt I could see him plain as e'er I
saw
The face of reverend father c.-
loved wife
His presence thrilled me with extati:
awe
Causing my soul to leap with joy-
ous life.
With form majestic and with face be
nign
He p'isse.1 with silent step nor
spoke; but when
My soul cried for release he made r
sign
Which said: "Be patient I will
come again."
Last night he came and showed my
wistful soul
Kaleidoscopic views of Paradise
Of all world-weary souls the longed-
for goal-
Sweet restful bowers 'neath soft
Elysian skies
Peopled with the redeemed of every
clime
And age cleansed by the '.hasten
ing i ol
from earthly stains whose thoughts
are nil sublime
Whose lives do good to men and
honor Gel.
But when my Impatient soul in eag.-r
greed
To join that happy thromr. again
did pray
From mouldering earthly prison to !
freed
And drop its load of worthless suf-
fering clay
Itcbuking my impetuous haste he
said:
"The evening comes 'tis now la'.'
afternoon
r.om setting sun the level beams ar
shed.
And yon shall go with me not ye!
but soon."
Anti-Contract Abolition.
Waco Aug. 10 Judge Eugene
Williams a prominent attorney and
influential public man of this city an-
nounces that he will Introduce a res-
olution at the Democratic convention
at San Antonio looking to abolishing
that section of the ati-pass law which
forbids the maklg of contracts be-
tween newspapers and railroads and
exchange of space In papers for mile-
age. He believes the law an infringe
nient of newspapers' rights and a step
toward the control of papers a thing
he regards as dangerous in any re
public.
