during the Congress without being
entertained and benefited.

Prof landon F. Smith Proposes to Come
to Bryin sad Establish One His
Proposition Will be Accepted.
The proposition to establish iu

garded as an assured fact. There
was held last eight at the Metho-
dist church a in-eting of representa-
tive members of the congregation
calkd by the pastor Dr. Itetts to
consider a proposition from Prof
Landon F. Smith to come to Kryau
aud establish just such a school as
ts contemplated here.
The meeting was opened with
prayer by Dr. Bert. Ed 11 all was
elected chairman and Malcolm
Carnes secretary. After some pre-
liminary remarks regarding the pro-
gress of the movement to date. Dr.
Uetts read communications from
Prof. Landon F. Smith in which be
states that he Is seeking In Texas a
location for Just such a school as is
proposed here; that he has been at-
tracted to Bryan by the agitation
which has been going on regarding
the enterprise and that he will come
to Bryan and open such a school
this fall If he can have the co-operation
of the church and the people
of Bryan. Prof. Smith Is one of the
best known and most successful edu-
cators In the state aud a man of
the most exemplary christian char-
acter lie was formerly president
ofChappell 1(111 female College for
seven or eight years and his success
in building up that Institution under
adverse circumstances led the trus-
tees of the Southwestern University
to call him to the presidency of th
University Annex. This position he
held until tie resigned It In order
that he and bis wife might accom-
pauy their daughter to Chicago and
remain with her during her univer-
sity course the last year of which
will be completed In about two
mouths. Prof. Smith has alto taken
special work In the same Institution
