MAY 1&. Our fifth and ItiBt month
closed last Friday May 17th. School
linn moved along smoothly this month.
Attendance held up remarkably well
as long as the drouth .continued but
when 11 rained and gave the farmers
plonty of floldwork to dp tioy had to
stop many of our pupils aud put them
In tho field. So during tho last week
tho ottondanco was cut down about
ono-half.
Tboro has been some slckncsn
among our pupils this month.
Mr W. F. Bird's children hav been
hlndored some on account of sickness
and also Mrs. Martin's.
Emma Horton was thought to have
tho alow fever nt tho tlmo our school
cloBcd but hope she Is bettor by now.
Farmers arc vory busy at present
planting. Had n fine rain anil think
they will have no troublo in getting
their cotton up. Some had plantod
bofore tho rnln and nro now planUng
over.
A portion of our district was visited
by a right hard hail storm during the
first part of tholmonth but nB crops
were not up much It did little tlnmago.
It boatoff somo fruit but about tho
worst damago I saw that It did was a
knot which it raised on. our friend Mr.
Bird's head.
As Friday wns to be our last day
of Bchool wo had our examination
on Thursday. Wo didn't attempt to
havo anything much of an entertain
ment: however several of tho pupils
prepared recitations and wo Invited
tho community In to spend tho last
evening with ub. We wero Very ngree-
ably surprised at the way they accep-
ted the invitation. It being such a
busy time we expected very few but
the hotiso was Just about full.
Mr. Powell brought his graphophone
down and furnished us with plenty ot
excellent music and about sixteen ol
the children lecited for us. We hail
a very pleasant evening. As we shook
the hands of our pupils the young
people who had gathered in and the
patronB who had stood by us so faith-
fully and listened the few parting
words of kindness It made us feel am-
ply repaid for all tho pains wo had
taken to make the school a success
There shall always be a warm place
In our heart for those merry hearted
children young folks and patrons that
treated us with such kindness during
our stay there.
We go to Alexander in Erath county
to work there the summer.
A word to the trustees: If It would
.not bo out of place I would like to
