AIULENE PUDLIC SCHOOLS
IN CROWDED CONDITION.
A i)encil pusher of The Reporter met
Prof. C. h. McDonald principal of tho
city high schools a few days ago and
after propounding a number of Inter-
rogatories to him secured what he be-
lieves to bo some very lpiportant In-
formation that should be given thought
ful study by the citizenship of Abi-
lene who are earnest advocates of im-
provement and enlargement of ou ed-
ucational facilities:
"The Central Ward building" said
Prof.McDonald "has 8 rooms and an
average attendance to the room of
about 50 while 3G to 40 is cons'derert
an average capacity. I ha"e charge
of C2 pupils in the 10th and 11th
grades. The same crowded condition
prevail at both north and south ward
'school buildings which has resulted
In all the unders being cut out nnd
some of theovers.
"It is confidently expected that there
will be at least 300 additional enroll-
ment for the coming year as numbers
of people are already movlnj here with
their families to secure tho bonoftt of
our educational advantages and 1 un-
derstand that a very large number
moro aro in prospect far tho com-
ing school year.
"Of course I am not offering any
school board of thQ.lr duties 'n the
premises for I feel sure thai the
school board is going to do their best
I for the school Interests but I think
the people at large should be acquain
ted with tho conditions as they cist
which will no doubt result in some
plans being hit upon that wlil give us
more room as well as additional teach
ers the coming year as it would be
a pity to see the efficiency of tho
school sacrificed by lack of room and
teachers especially when Abilene just
now is attracting so much favorable
attention all ovor this western country
as an educational center."
Conditionally.
A certain minister tells of an Irish-
man to whose bedside ho was once
called. The man was very 111 and his
recovery was doubted.
"Have yon forgiven all your enemies
Pat?" the minister asked.
"Sure an 'ol-havei all exclpe Dan
0'Hagan" Pat replied.
"But you must forgive all if you
hopo to reach paradise" the minister
continued. j
"We'l all right" thin" said Pat" af-
ter reflecting for some tlmo "but if
ol get well ol'll break his head."
