UNITED STATES ARMY OFFICERS DECLARES TtfAT COM
MUNITY SHOULD ORGANIZE AND INVITE SLACKERS
TO LEAVE THE ClTY. IMPORTANCE OF BACKING GOV-
ERNMENT IS INSISTED UPON BY ALL SPEAKERS.
Monday night March 25th IMS there was held in the little
city of Abilene Texas a meeting that will go down in history as
an epochal event in the life of the community. In tho largo audi-
torium of the First Baptist Church thero gathered an audience that
taxed the: capacity of tho building there being present at the low-
est count two thousand six hundred people.
Tho occasion was to hear speakers sent out by the government
of the United States tell their stories of why the people should buy
Liberty Bonds support the Red Cross Y. M. C. A. and all other
government activities. Tho speeches were among the best ever
heard in tho city some of the statements cutting to the quick as was
the case when Captain Kelly of Camp McArthur a member of the
staff of Gen. Barth urged that in every community the people or-
ganize md invite men to leave town who fail to do their part in
purchasing Liberty Bonds and in their support of tho government's
war policies declaring that tho army will WIN THE WAR IF THE
PEOPLE WILL FURNISH THE EQUIPMENT AND MONEY TO
PAY FOR IT. Other dramatic and intense moments came when
Miss Mario Van Gastol told of the suffering and sacrifices of her
beautiful Belgium now under tlio
