PATROL LEADERS PLANNING
<£ A quick get-away from a dead stop and
plenty of power are things that many of us
look for in a new car. They are also signs of a
good Troop. Getting off to a good start with plenty
of power for the year ahead will frequently de-
termine the success of the entire Troop year.
Program Planning
You would not start off on a long trip without
having the car checked and greased and without
planning the route. Planning the Troop Program
for the year in rough form and the first two
months in detail, is your method of checking on
leadership (engine) efficiency and plotting the
road to follow for the most enjoyable and profit-
able Troop year.
At the first opportunity, get the Committee
together with the Junior Staff; take out your new
1950-51 Scoutmaster's Program Notebook and read
the section on program planning; read pages 26-27
in this issue of Scouting; jot down the steps
you'll take to plan the program for the year.
Crusade Climax
Don't forget that the 40th Anniversary Crusade
to Strengthen The Arm of Liberty comes to a
close with Scout Week — February 6-12, 1951.
The next five months provide time for an all out
drive to reach those goals you decided upon last
year. It'll take the close cooperation of all mem-
bers of the Committee, each one of the Junior Staff
—and every last Scout. So while planning for the
year, have your Crusade goals available for
ready reference.
Roll Call
Let all prospective Scouts know about the Troop
— where and when it meets, some of the high-
lights of the Troop year. Send postcards to every
old member announcing the first fall meeting. Get
the P.L.'s to ride herd too, and aim for 100 per cent
at the first meeting. But don't let them down when
