My Dear Mother: After being in the
great buttle for ulght days. I am glad
io write that I atn safe rind sound
and feeling line. I suppose yon have
been reading all about the battle
which began on the British front
March 2'>. I had been Willi the llrit-
h army since Feb. 11 and on March
20 the battle started. Thai day I wrote
to Sister M iir'ile slating that the roar-

hut t don't think she ever received
that letter for I heard a few days
later Hint nil the mall sent that day
had been destroyed so It would not
fall into Herman hands. 1 hope she
got the letter. I was certainly glad to
receive her letter which came March
19. the day before the battle, and it

awful experience, As you see from
this letter, my address has chaiMri'd.
I am now chief surgeon of a large
camp hospital, so phase address me
