TRACK SEASON
Through the earnest efforts and good coaching of "Mule" Frazier, with
the assistance of Mr. Daniel in the weight division, M. W. H. S. was able
to put out its strongest track team in years. By much hard work under
the direction of Coach Frazier, the team made a track which surpassed any
High School track in the State.
GRAHAM MEET
Our first track meet of the season was staged in Graham at an in-
vitation meet in which Graham High School, Graham American Legion and
other schools participated. Mineral Wells was an easy victor, Lee Cash
taking highest honors and bringing home a beautiful gold medal. Also
Griffin, Bouldin, Cooksey, Cornelius, Carter, Eastland and others, by win-
ning their events, helped to bring home a beautiful loving cup for the school,
with the greatest number of points.
BAYLOR MEET
The meet at Baylor University was the first big meet of the season
and Griffin demonstrated his ability by winning both the mile and half-
mile runs. Cooksey tied for fourth in the pole vault; Carter fourth in the
12-pound shot put, and Eastland fourth in the mile run. Mineral Wells
u won fifth place in the number of points. 0
DISTRICT MEET AT DENTON
Again Mineral Wells attracted attention by running Forest High and
Oak Cliff High of Dallas a very close race for highest honors.
Griffin again starred and wocn the mile and half-mile with case. Eas:-
land won second in the mile and third in the half-mile. Carter threw his
way to a victory in the shot put, closely followed by Lee Cornelius, who won
second. Cornelius won the discus throw, Cooksey tied for second place in
the pole vault and Massie won second in the high jump.
S. M. U. MEET
S. M. U. also gave a track meet to High Schools this year, and Mineral
Wells took third place.
As usual, Griffin took the mile and half-mile and Eastland won third
in the mile. Cornelius won second in the shot and Cooksey tied for fourth
place in the vault.
STATE MEET
"Dick" Griffin was the only one to enter the State meet, as this was
during examinations and the other members of the team were busy.
"Dick" won second highest honors by winning the mile and half-mile,
which brought his number of first places up to eleven.
A. & M. MEET
Griffin also journey over to A. & M. and walked away with the mile and
half-mile run, just to show them he hadn't forgotten how.
