2d line. The statement .'with their mother S:rah Smith (nee Turner)'
is inrcorrect. So far as I have been able to determine she never
vent to Tennessee. At all events, shie died in North Carolina. I
do nct have just now but have been told th-t the inscription on
her tombstone was legible some twenty years ago, and in time I will
probably be able to get a copy. I have that of her husband, James
Ssith.
3d line: Jre.. Smith was not 'of England' but tof English descent.'
The Smiths had been over here for several generations.
6th line: Sarah Saith's husband was not John C. lapier but John ?s.
nplier. (I might say here that in a 'family hTstory' compiled in"
1882 from 'Uncle Jinmy' Smith's account of the family, the name
is gIven as John C. l!apler. That t.as probably copied from a copy
of an old letter written by 'Uncle Jimmyl in 1654 where it appearsSTIRPES
