Texas gives for the purpose of con

the alternate sections of land reserved
out of grants heretofore made or that
may nereattor be made to railroads
eto.; also ooo-balf the public domain
of tho State and all money that may
come to the Stato from any oortion of
the same. It also sets apart aunuully
not moro than one-fourth of the gen
cral rovenuo of the State and a poll
tax of one dollur upon eaoh male ia
habitant between the ages of twenty-
one and sixty years for tho benefit of
the publio schools. In August. 1876'
the permuneut school fuud amounted
to $39817 91 currency and $3030852
95 in bonds. In addition to this the
school fund has about eight millions
of acres ot alternate sections of land
located by railroad and other conipan
les and over thirty millions of acres
under the clause "half of the publio
domain of the State" which at tho
minimum price at which it is allowed
to be sold viz.: $1 50 per acre would
roalize $57000000.
Judge Kimble of Ellis County pro
