Capitulation of PIctm. '
London Dec. 10. lleuter's Tele
gram Company has the following :
Bi)CUAftE8T (Monday) Deo. 10.-
After a severe engagement yesterday
before Plevna Osmau pasha who was
wounded surrendered unconditionally.
The Turks in Plevna are dying of bun
iter and cold.
Lateu. fteuter's has received the
following 5
Bucharest Deo. 10 (9:40 p. ra.)-
Plevna is now in.the hands ot the Bus-
co-Roumanian army.
The Agency Russe makes the follow
ins aDnounoement: Osuiao Pasha at
tempted to break through in tbedireo
tion of Widdin but was attacked in
front and compelled to lay down arms
after a glorious struggle in which he
was seriously wounded. All with one
voice praise his conduct. '
Wfc furnish this week one of the
strongest possible evidences of the su-
periority of the plan upon whioh we
ate now publishing our paper in the
faot that we give in full the President's
Message. It is very long and not one
io fifty of the local papers eould issue
it "on their own hook" unless it might
bo in parts. We do not believe that
many even of the oity papers in Texas
have published it in full. As every
one will wish to read the first message
of the acting President our readers we
are sure will appreciate the supeiior
enterprise of the Free Press as thus
manifested id their behalf.
TUX AM N KWtt.
The tide of immigration pouring in-
to the State through North Texas is
beyond conception and fur ahead of
anything ever known before. The
roads are full of wagons and every train
loaded with passengers booking Lew
homes.
The banks of San Antonio held
$50000 in silver dollars which they
paid out at a hundred oentson the dol-
lar on November 1. On the second
they placed it at five per cent discount
and they made $2000.
Georgetown Record i On last Sat-
urday evening while some of the school
boys were exploring what is known as
the bat oavo some two miles from
town a pistol in tlio pocket of Albert
Carter was accidentally discharged
striking William Wynne in the right
temple passing under his jawbone
down into his neok inflicting a serious
and we fear a fatal wound thour.li his
physician entertains a hope of bis re-
covery. S. W. Yue Esq. who has just re-
turned from a trip through Brown nd
Hamilton counties gives a rather dis
couraging account of the condition of
affairs in those counties. Crops th'iB
year have been almost a complete fail-
ure. Many families have been forced
to leave their homes and go to more
favored district where they could get
cotton to pick and thus earn a subsistence-
Numbers of these will never
return to their homes which in many
cases were pre-emption settlements.
&w Saba AVic
Mr. Brown adjoining the town of
San Saba rents several acres of his ir-
rigated bottom for twenty five dollars
per acre this year; mostly to the citi-
zens of the town for gardens.
There are three successful irrigations
in San Saba county. J. W. Fleming's
farm of about 350 acres has been irri-
gated for several years and large at
it may seem he has made over one
thousand dollar per acre on El Paso
onrtms. They gmw in one year from
(fie M.'cJ. larger than the largest coffee
clip and are io all respects equal to
thn:- raised at El Paso.
CiircAoo December 5. The Fourth
Cavalry from the Iadiaa Territory and
the Twentieth Infantry from DakoUn
are the troops ordered to Texas. These
bod m of troops will bs recruited op to
their full regimental strength aad will
material! trenclhen the forces along
th iorder.

The following to the lotter referred
to io our lust. We publish it as a
warning to others and as showing the
erroneous views of this county entei-
tuined by persons at a distance. How
an intelligent lidj could have fallen
into so transparent a trap is to un inex-
plicable. Ed.

Mr. Jolian : The writer of this is
a widow lady who has seen your busi-
nes card in the San Marcos Free
Press. I wish to inquire of you if
you know anything about one Will N
Cone Heal Estate Broker as he calls
himself and what is charaoter for hon-
esty etc I saw in some paper over a
year ago his advertisement offering pec-
tions of land (C40 acres) for two hun-
dred dollars srid I wrote to bim I
wanted a section and he told me he
would give mo a seotion in Hays coun-
ty which had 100 acres of timber on it
the balanoe good tillable prairio with
living water upon and hedesoribed the
land ib being orery way desirable and
worth more than double the money.
And he wrote me to send him the mon-
ey by return mail and he would send
me the deed and all tho chain of title ;
but it is three months since I sent him
the money and he has not yet sent me
the deed for the laod and says he made
a mistake that the land is in Blanco
County but as I think he now wants
to put off some less valuable land on
me instead of giving me that I bar-
gained for I wrote him 1 would not
acoept of it so he still has my money
and although I have written him sev-
eral letters to return it to me he has
not done so and left Kansas City as
soon as he received my letter telling
him to give up the money. Has he got
a section of land io Hays county or did
he toll me a falsehood as to it? You
probably know him ; he lived at Fort
Scott and wrote me he had moved to
Kansas City. I am told he once lived
at San Marcos so hope you will be good
enough to tell me what you know of
hiiu. When he received the money he
wrote me a couple or thrco lines sign-
ing his clerk's initials and saying that
be was in St. Louis at the fair; but he
writes a peculiar hand and I knew it
u' once as his own writing and the ini-
tials were scratohed so badly that I
could uot tell what letters they were.
He will not now condesoend to even
reply to my letters on tho subject and
I suppose feels (suite independent hav
ing both the land ac'i the money. I
mean to have him published in the
Kansas City Fort Scott and Dallas
newspapers it' he does not return my
money at once and interest two ptr
cent a month what I had to pay for
money. Will you please tell me ti e
easiest and cheapest way to get my
money back from him. I wanted the
laud and meant to come out there and
live on it uud as I sent him the money
and we hud bargained for the Iluys
county land only if ho has any such
and I t'niuk I can claim it and com
pel him io give me a deed if 1 choose
What do you think about it? please
adviso. I am going down as far as
Houston in about ten. days and if I
can't get the laod he agreed to let me
have I will gel some other.
Have you any 640 acre sections in
that county for snle it so I would give
you the money Mr. Cone has of mine
for a good section if you would get the
money from him. I want running
water living all the time summer and
winter and some timber on same tract(
and in a high and dry locatioo. Have
you such a tract that you would sell me
for $200 in Hays county. Or if you
will make Cone give me a deed for the
lani I bargained and pail him for I
will purchase another section from you
at same price if you have any (or sale-
I don't want any chnpurrel land not
an acre. Mr. Cone said San Marcos
was the second station below this land
so you may know where it is if he had
any such land. It is not possible that
be could have ra vie any such mistake
and wben he wrote me to send the $200
he told me to sead alio his " letters to
ne describing the land;" and that
aroustd my suspioions as to his integ-
rity. Slill I sent the money and be-
fore I took time to think much about
it. He wrote me he had been down to
a his nya couoty land when he wrote
me to send the money and if it was in
Blanco county it is very strange he
did not fiod that out when he was down
there lie aleo mv now tbat Bla&oo
was a portion of lhj county aai has
been divided eff Iroaa Hays aiae he
purchased the land which is not true
for I have the history of Days eeaaty
ia the Saa Marcos paper aad Blanco
was never a prt of it. and he knows i.
I think he must be a had man ; but bo
he what he may I shall have my money
or the lapd he sold me or it msy coRt
him more than he would be willing to
take for all the land in Texas and you
may tell him so for me.
I am a Southernsr and lived in the
States of Louisiana and Mississippi
until I came to Texas some years ago
but have been absent two years and re-
turned here recently. '
