astrous flood in Williamsburg Massa-
chusetts to-day caused by the break-
ing away of reservoirs causing con-
siderable loss of life. No particulars
have yet been received.

reservoirs above Williamsburg Mass.
which were constructed to supply the
manufactories of Williamsburg Leeds
and Haydenville gave way at au early
hour this morning the water sweeping
everything before it. Theubove numed
towns were almost entirely destroyed
including such buildings as Ilaydon
Moore &Co's immense brick factory.
A large loss is reported but it Is at
present Impossible to give any esti-
mate though it is probably not less
than one million dollars.

land the boat. As no arms were to be
had the officers made no response.
Tbe boat was run near enough to the
wharf boat at Hickman to throw off a
telegram to the United States marshel
at Cairo asking for a posse to meet the
boat below the city.

acres of waters averaging thirty
feet in depth.

Brooks is still defiant and feels as-
sured that the president acted hastily.
Baxter talks of death to traitors uud
advises Brooks to leave the state.
Baxter sent a telegram to Washing-
ton to-duy that Colonel Terry would
testify that Judgo Bowen (Dorsey's op-
ponent for United States senator) was
paid thirty-six thousand dollars by the
hitter to withdraw from the contest
and that ho (Baxter) was told by Hor-
sey that he deposited two hundred
thousand dollars lu bonds for the pur
pose of bribing the legislature.
There are alarming accounts from
the country. Houses and barns are
being burned. Two recent murders
are reported. The parties were home-
ward bound from either side. The
mob Is malignant.

caution is being taken to save the mar
riage of the president's daughter troin
