We aro in receipt of h letter from a
carpenter In Dallas who takes issue
with a paragraph in the local column
of Tun Hun ami of that city as to the
scarcitv of labor there. Our corres-
pondent hiivs laborers tire much more
abundant than work; that ho only gets
four davs work during the week at
three dollars per day currency while
board and lodging are six dollars per
week; that tho two best house con-
tractors there have been forced to give
up business one of them not having
an hour's work to do and the other
having decamped a bankrupt. He says
the work on a .V) by l two story iron"
front building Is being done for 8450.
The writer concludes with the remark
that Dallas is without doubt a thriv-
ing town hut is at present gluttedwith
laborers of all clashes and to invite
Mich there who are without means is
to invite them to abject want. On the
other hand he says there is room for
any amount of capitalist who could
reap a golden harvest. He expresses
Hie hope of yet seeing Dallas tw city
of Northern Texas.
We have given tho subslanco of this
letter as a simple act of courtesy to the
writer without knowing anything of
the facts of the case. Tho letter was
rather long for publication and is too
severe upon our cotcinporary wlio was
dollliles.i prompted ny tne niosi uimh-
tercsteil motives in inviting labor to
Dallas. iShi-cveport Times.
Tun most eilectivo way always of
treating the tenor of such communica-
tions to which is added the exceed-
ingly courteous and excellent-tempered
remarks of the Khrevcport rimes is by
by the incontrovertible logic of facts.
We therefore give below a letter from
one of tho leading contractors of this
city at whose establishment we are
authorized to say carpenters who are
ewjicnters and will work can obtain
employment utonce and at good wages.
Dam.ah August 21 1H73

An exchange says an Illinois widow
fainted away at the grave of her hus-
band and remained in a fit all night.
Dallas widows are smarter than that;
when they want to faint nt the grave
of their first husbands they go tiiid get
married again and take flieir husbands
with them so they can catch them
when Uiy fall and order a carriage
and take them home and then give
them a new bonnet to get well; and
then they get well and wear that Um-
net down street where they see such it
beautiful dress pattern in one of the
stores; and then they go home and
take their hitsbands out to that grave
again and then they faint some more
and are carried home In a carriage
again mid they the only thing that
will get them well is Hint dress pattern.
Wo tell you Dallas widows are smart.
