District Cocst. District court is still in session:
mud will probably occupy most of nixt week in clo-
ling the docket. The greater portion of the present
week has been occupied in trying two or three tedi-
ous land cases. Two entire days were consumed
tn the trial of the cause of Horton vs. Cockrell which
Ins been on the docket for years and has been tried
some half dozen times. Between five and ten acres
ef land only being a controversy as to the true
boundary between two surveys were originally in-
volved but oosts have accumulated so as to make
the result important in a pecuniary point of view.
The verdict was for tho pluintiff but the case will
again go tho Supreme court.
The Grand-Jury was discharged on Saturday last
having disposed of all the business presented to
them. They returned 11 bills of indictment. The
only on of a serious nature was that of the State
vs. A. M. Moore for murder in killing Alexander
Cockrell last spring. This case was set for trial on
Thursday last and is now progressing. We will give
the result and a more extended notice of the trial in
our next.
ff The mails this week have failed to bring the
oaual amount of papers. We have received none of the
' exchange by which we usually receive the latest in-
telligence from abroad and are consequently wilhaul
late new Item.
