might participate In llie primary elec
lions this summer. Two years ago llie
Women of this Slate showed that fhey
were capable of usinir the ballot. A
short tiinc after the election two ye.jrs
ago, a loading statesman of Texas who
hail long been an ardent opponent of
woman suffrage stated that the re-
sults of the election that year con-
verted lilm to the cause of suffrage,
as the women showed that they used
the ballot intelligently. At that lime
the payment of a poll tax was not
n prerequisite to voting by women, an
exemption allowed because of the fact
that the law was passed after tile reg-
ular time for paying poll taxes Wom-
en are now required to qualify thel

first taste of real "equal" suffrage.;
