Frost Tuesday Night.
Hon. C. C. McDonald, secretary of
state, was here Tuesday night to
deliver an address In favor of Gov.
O. B. Colquitt, but as the crowl
failed to make its appearance, Mr.
McDonald decided that it was "a
frost," and Jld not make a speech.
It would have been a waste of time
any way, for Jacksonville Is just
about solid for Ramsey.—Cherokee

PERKINS FEELING FINE.
Home Opposition Eliminated; Will
He Next Congressman.
Sherman, Texas, July 18.—Sena-
tor Tom W. Perkins of McKinney,
was in Shermun yesterday afternoon
on his way to Whitesboro, where he
spoke today. He \Vill speak in the
western part of the county during
the remainder of,. this week.
Senator Perkins is feeling pretty
fine. He has got all of his opponents
In Collin county eliminated., and
says he has clear sailing at home.
He won over two strong opponents
in that county In his race tor State
Senator, getting as many votes as
all of the others put together, &nd
had a walkover this time, but of
course a fellow can't help but feel
good when it is a cinch that he has
no opposition.
He also won every box in Hunt
county before and carried Rains.
During Ills campaign in Grayson
county ho has made many friends.
Ih> is a plain man of the people,
having worked all of his life, he
knows what work Is, and his success
In life has boen attained by hardi
work and close attention to> busi-
ness. He is able, honest, clean,
hlgh-mlded, right on all of the great
questions of the day and has been
from the first. When Governor Wil-
son was nominated for President by
the Baltimore convention Senator
Perkins dldi not have to do any
somersaulting to get Into the band
wagon, for he had been driving the
vehicle ever since he started in pub-
lic life. Some of his opponents
can't say ns much.
Tom W. Perkins is not much of a
politician, for If he believes a thing
lie blurts it right out, without stop-
ping to consider whethefr it will get
him votes or not, and when ho
thinks he is right he stays with it
till the hair slips. „
He is generous to a fault, and has
given awty- to charity more than
some of his opponents evpr made,
and is still giving—that is what
keeps him poor. lie has made a suc-
cess of his own business, and has
always made gonfl whenever en-
trusted to nttend to other peoples'
liuslness. No wrong thing has ever
been charged against his character,
and his whole life is an open book
to all people who desire to know-
about him.
He Is a sound Democrat, and has
always been In the forefront of the
political battles in his section.
There Is no question but that the
man who beats Tom W Perkins will
be the next Congressman from the
Fourth Congressional District.—
Sherman Correspondent to Denlson
Herald.
WHY THEY ENDORSE PERKINS.
New spinier Men Know ami Esteetyi
Tom W. Perkins.
The Commercial Is gratified at the
splendid endorsement given Senator
Tom W. Perkins of McKinney, by
the preBs ol' his district and the
press of the St'ate in general. At
first thought, this may not signify
so much, especially the press notices
from papers out of his district
might be considered to have little
bearing upon the vote he will re-
ceive, but it means a great deal af-
ter all, for It proves that Senator
Perkins is a man that makes good.
The man that can begin at the bot-
tom and, by his own efforts rise to
the highest rank, and the highest
honors in his profession, and can
draw to himself the esteem and the
confidence of every member of his
profession is !iy all manner of rea-
soning undoubtedly a man of merit,
a man of worthy characteristics,
strong influence and strong princi-
ples. Such a man Is Senator Perlqns
known to be by those with whom he
has been associated in his life's
work, in a fraternal and business
way and he holds the good will, the
esteem and confidence of the nows-
paper people of the State to the de-
gree that the great majority of them
are earnestly Interested in his suc-
cess in his race for Congress, and of
these each and every brother editor
is lending his influence to that end.

WITHOUT FOUNDATION.
Wylle Rustler So Brands Campaign
Fabrication on Tom W. Perkins.
Hon. Tom W. Perkins may have
his faults; we all have, but the cam-
paign canard which has beer, freely
circulated of late that he is ,n
"drunkard, gambler, and an infi-
del," Is going some. Tom's life from
boyhood up among the people of
Wylle, Piano and McKinney Is suf-
ficient to give the lie to the non-
sensical Imputation. The Rustler
knows Tom W. and knows the
charges are entirely without founda-
tion In fact.—Wvlie Rustler.
TO "ONE IN A HII<L.'
Grayson County Editor's Opinion of
Perkins' Chance.
Senator Tom W. Perkins has at
last Rot Collin county thinned down
to one in a hill, the Hon. J. Dud
Cottrell having stepped down and
out of the race—and the stand looks
pretty good. It Is better to be born
lucky than handsome. But Senator
Perkins wbb born both.—Denlson
