Stewart Burns was nearly un-
touchable for six innings on the
mound Eight players on the
Smithville roster failed to show
up to play this second game of
the young American Legion
season.
The Smithville diamonder's
first contest was played
Wednesday night at House Park
in Austin The Crockett team of
Aust'.ii won that game by
a score of 10-0.

High School Rodeo Set
The 29th Annual State
Championship High School
Rodeo will be held in Halletts-
ville, Texas on June 17th
thru 21st. 1975. This rodeo has
been an annual event since 1974
when it was organized in
Hallettsville, Texas by Mr.
Alton Allen, Mr. Claude Mullms
and Mr. Leon Kahanek, Sr.(dec.)
The 29th State Championship
High School Rodeo will be the
biggest and best from all in-
dications. A total of 499 entries
have been received.
Events will include tiedown
roping, breakaway roping.steer
wrestling, cutting horseevents,
bronc riding, bull riding, goat
tying and other events, plus
special attractions such as the
Harris Co. Jr Sheriff's
Mounted Posse and other
attractions
The State rodeo will be held,
as usual in Hallettsville's 5000
seat arena As in previous years
there will be night per-
formances only, starting each
night at 8p.m Team roping
preliminaries will be held on
June 15th at 1 p.m.
June 17th will be Family Night
when alf children 12 years and
under will be admitted free.
Above 12 years 50£. Children
must accompany parents who
pay regular admission. June
18th is Ladies Night; one
lady will be admitted free when
accompanied by a purchaser of 1
adult ticket Box seats will be
$2.50, General Admission,
Adults $2 00, Children, $1.00.
Season tickets are available.
There will be a Big Western
Parade on Friday June 20th at
4 p.in Entries are still being
accepted and if you have an
entry contact the CCA Office
in Hallettsville.
Finalist at the State Rodeo
will go on to the National Rodeo
which will be held in Gallup,
New Mexico on August 5th thru

their perfect record last week,
while the Little League Marrs-
Jones nine continued unde-
feated
Leading 5-2 early in the
game, the KCs had to fend off a
bold challenge by the Lions
Friday night to hold on to a 5-5
tie in six innings of play. This
marked the firsttimeanyteam
had come close to the undefeated
KCs, who now have a 5-0-1
record. The league leaders had
defeated Wessels Superette
earlier in the week by a 7-2
score.

other PeeWee game last week,
Wessels Superette gained a win
over the Savings and Loan when
the latter team failed to muster
a starting nine and had to forfeit
the game.
Marrs-Jones started out the
week Monday night by defeating
the American Legion Little
Leaguers by a 13-6 count and
topped it off Friday night with a
4-2 victory over the VFW. The
Pioneers, winless so far, came
close Thursday with a narrow
10-9 loss to the American
Legion after being beaten
soundly by the VFW Tuesday
night by a score of 17-5.

challenge of the Piranhas in last
Wednesday's replay of their
protested game to emmergein

Softball League play The
Parrots humbled the Piranhas
by a scoreofll-4 in just four
innings of play. The Piranhas
troubles were not over for the
week, however, as they were
again soundly beaten Sunday by
the Smithville Times Cougars.
This score was another lopsided
15 to 3.
Creeping up on the victorious
Parrots, however, aretheJIiD
Market Alleycats, who brought
their record to6-4 by beating
the Panthers Sunday by a score
of 9 to 6 This was the third
straight win for the Alleycats,
coached by DianeSaunders and
Marilyn Lee.
Wednesday night, the Dixie
Mobile Homes Panthers,
coached by Lynn Hoffman and
Martha Schoeder, beat the
Cougars by a score of 10 to 4.
Offer Archery Instruction
AUSTIN-Instruction for
those who want to teach basis
archery in schools, colleges,
community agencies, camps
and archery clubs will be
offered June 21-29 at The
University of Texas
Those who complete the
course successfully will be
named Certified Archery In-
structors by the National Arch-
ery Association and will re-
ceive two hours of college credit
from UT's Extension Division
Mrs. Maxine Beardsley, who
is coordinating the class, said
among the teachers for the
course will be four of the nine
instructor trainers certified by
the NAA in the U.S
The faculty includes Julia
Bowers, director of instruction
for NAA certification, Mrs
Beardsley; Robert Rhode,
former nationa! target and field
champion; Victor Berger, three
times Professional Archery

In PeeWee play during the
week, the Hornets suffered two
defeats. Wednesday evening the
C4H Builders Robins, coached
by Marilyn Wood, triumphed
over the Hornets by a 20 to 6
score Sunday's game found the
Chapparal Guppies, coached by
Rose Mary Jenkins, easing put
a narrow 12 to 11 win over the
same Hornets.
Games this week include
Pf eWee Guppies vs the Hornets
and the Parrots vs. the Piranhas
on Wednesday, PeeWee Robins
vs. Angels. Cougars vs Alley
cats and Panthers vs Parrots
on Sunday This will wrap up
the PeeWee Girls Softball
schedule for the year with tin
older girls playing one more
game next Wednesday .June 18,
pitting the Piranhas against the
Panthers. A rained out game,
Alleycats vs Panthers, has not
yet been scheduled and will not
be played unless standings
depend on it
Following the regular season,
a majors All Star Game and a
Coaches Game will be scheduled
