San Antonio in a few days. J.
Guy Smith-lieed, formerly of

somewhat of a reputation in
Southwest Texas, where by his

been a prominent figure in
journalism, and was about three

acting in th1 capacity of deputy

months with his wound and i;
left him an invalid physically,
but his mental powers are still all

of several of the articles—one on
the Schley case, another on that

several on subjects of less im

on sale at the news stands and is
well worth the price.
The editor of a newspaper has
no business ever to get anything;
in ins paper that people do notj
like. Ho ought fo know just;
what wou d suit each individual, j

to do all this, and all he has to
do is tn hunt up news and clean
rollers, set type, clean the floor,
pen short items, hustb for adver-

Hon. A. M. Kennedy has sold
the Mart Herald to J. F. Stephens
who assumed charge this week.
Mr. Kennedy will remain in
Mexia for the present and has
announced that he will be a
candidate for representative from
the flotorial district composed of
tho counties of Limestone, Mc-
Lennan and Falls. At present
Vlr. Kennedy is assisting John
L. Wortham in launching the
campaign of Prof li. B. Cousins
for State Superintendent of Pub-
lic Instruction.
Mr. Maclay has
that since he received the letter
from Chairman Proctor of the
Civil Service Commission he has
considered the incident of his dis-
charge from the Nav> Depart-
ment as closed. Inasmuch as the
Civil Service Commission was
the last court of anpeal for him
and inasmuch as it refused posi-
tively to consider his plea, Mr.
M'tclay could hardly do other-
wise than decide to clo-a the in-
cident and go about his business.
—Dai las News.
And let us all hope that the
incident IS closed.
