Of co use the navy .really did not
need any defence by Secretary Dan-
iels because every American who
keeps his eyes open knows that tho
United States navy did remarkably
well in the war. but the fact remains
that Mr. Daniels has succesfully pun-
ctured the bubble blown by Admiral
Sims. Considering the provocation
the secretary has kept his temper wel
in hand and reveals the work of the
navy In acalm dispassionate way
that carries conviction. Admiral
Sims Is getting just what he has com-
ing to him for his uncalled-for at-
tack on the navy's war-tlmeachieve-rients
would have been inexcusable
even for a civilian much less a high
officer of the navy. Whatever mo-
tive' theadmlral had for his attack
tho secretary has completely destroy- v
cd every criticism directed by the ad-
mlriil nt the nnvv Ah the Herrrtnrv !
st!d. the fact that no American sol
dier lost hs llfo while his jdiip was.
convoyed by American voxels is suf-
ficient answer for all the adverse
criticism which has been leveled at
tiie navy's war-tlnie efficiency.
The legislature of New York has
enacted a law to provide punishment
of a person guilty of furnishing news
pipers with false Information. The
sale way for a newspaper to use a
c'ouhtful statement Is to snr who
said It.
The Abilene Reporter has found
satisfying proof that President Wil-
son's position as to the Ken ate peace
resolution is correct. Senator Reed
of Missouri disagrees with the Presi-
dent. L. N. Poriman says he doesn't ob-
ject to basket ball but be thinks the
players should wear clothes when
they play.
