It ha. been truthfully said in the past that
opportunity come at least once in the life of
every man. If only every man could reahe
that and be able to take hold or grasp it when
the opportunity .how. up. then by proper
manipulation of the opportunity offered he
would be assured a reasonable success in hi.
line of life' work. Keenly Mve to every
day' offering in the matter of opportunitie.
where he could take hold and a backbone and
will to push every advantage offered in the
appointment line i. a great factor leading to
what is now known a. one of the best in the
commercial field of Western Texas or the
Bradley Auto Company of Lubbock. Texas.
J. C. Phillips and H. P. Bradley established
the Phillips-Bradley Auto Co. in our city more
than ten year ago or to be exact in 1908 by
securing the agency for a car known the world
over now as a blessing to mankind the Ford.
Here was a car made on sound principles of
manufacture and a product sold at a price in
reach of the average man offering the same
efficient mode of transpotration as those of
much higher priced. People were wanting
cars and they would buy if prices did not pro-
hibit. Here was the opportunity and Mr.
Bradley realized it and grasped it with a de-
termination to successfully distribute it to all.
He established his business on West Broadway
in the Burrus building in this city and has
grown to an extent that he was for-ed to find
larger quarters. Therefore we find him in his
large building now located on Ash and
North 1st street. This move was made four
years at;o. The building in whii h thry oper-
ate today is a modern fire proof brick fifty
by one hundred and twenty-five feet. The
value of whi h nears forty thousand dollars
estimated from effers made on it. ITiis build-
ing is one that our city is proud of.
In the front part of the building is located
the office and sales room also a great deal of
shelving and space devoted to accessories.
This accessory line carried by the Bradley
Auto Company i. one of the largest and most
complete in our State. In the rear of the
building facilities have been installed for a
modern vulcanizing plant which is not only
one of the best on the Plains but is know far
and wide for its satisfactory work turned out
in a pleasing efficient way.
In a separate and smaller building directly
across the alley from the main building is
found or located the service department of
the Bradley Auto Company. This building
occupies a space of twenty five feet by one
hundred and twenty five feet: giving plenty of
room for the mechanical workmen to give the
service that they are envied for and the repu-
tation they have over the South Plains for sat-
isfactory work. It is one of the plans of this
company to keep in the mechanical shop only
workmen skilled in the different lines.
In 1919 J. M. Bradley father of H. P. Brad
ley entered the company as a partner and on
January 1st. 1910 J. M. and H. P. Bradley
bought the interest of Mr. Phillips and toon af-
terwards Mr. W. L. Barne. purchased stock in
the company to the amount of $400.00 and
some three years ago Mr. J. M. and H. P. Brad-
ley bought this stock at a price of $1 5.000 and
later H. P. Bradley purchased the interest of
Mr. J. M. Bradley who nov' owns and operates
the Oakland Sale. Company.
The Bradley Auto Company ha. the agency
for the Ford car and the Fordson Tractor in
most of the counties of the South Plains some
of these being Crosby. Lubbock Hockley.
Cochran. Gara Lynn Terry and Yoakum.
In nearly all of the countie. there i. a branch
house of the Bradley Auto Company where
mechanical service is rendered and nice stock
of parts and accessories carried. Some of
those place being: Post City Ralls. Brown-
field and Tahoka. By keeping a complete line
of accessories for sale both by retail and
wholesale these branch house maintain ex-
cellent Ford service by keeping in constant
touch with the main house in our city who are
