SPORTS EDITOR
The softball team beat
University of Incarnate Word, April
15 in a doubleheader, 4-3 and 4-1.
These two wins were very
important for the Rams because the
women had a split with Incarnate
Word losing one and winning one
game, April 1.
In the first game the team start-
ed off slowly, trailing the Crusaders
3-1 in the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning of the
game sophomore pitcher Tracey
Dean,, senior outfielder Brandi
Williams and freshman outfielder
Melanie Williams scored one run
apiece putting the Rams up by one
run, 4-3.
"I was very proud of the girls
because they did not quit. 1 think
that they feel unbeatable right now
because we are playing so well and
are determined to make it to
Regionals," said head coach
Rodney McNeil.
In the second game against
Incarnate Word, the Rams struggled
. until the last inning.
Dean was the only player who.
had scored a run for. the Rams until
the seventh inning.
The game was tied 1-1 with
Brandi Williams taking the plate..
Williams nailed a home run
with two players, Melanie Williams
and freshman shortstop Christina
Obregon on base. The game ended,
4-1.
"The second game we played
great defense and had awesome
pitching. Dean pitched an awesome
game and only let them get one run
which was off an error," said
McNeil. "Brandi's home run was
also phenomenal because that made
us up three runs."
The women have a good
chance to be ranked number one in
their region after Wednesday, April
19.
"Right now we are ranked
number two but after the polls come
out on Wednesday 1 hope to be
ranked number one. We have the
hardest schedule out of the top live
teams in the Region which will be
considered in the rankings," said
McNeil.
The team is ranked second in
the region currently .behind
Nebraska Kearney whose record is
24-6.
Wesleyan's record is currently
34-8. If the women advance to
Regionals they will play May 12-
13.
The women's have six games
left before regionals.
Dates are April 20, 26 and 29

University, St. Edward's University
and Southern Arkansas.

"We should win all the games
from here on out. We need to win
all of them hecause you can never
tell what may happen with the other
teams," said McNeil.

were beaten by their opposition.
Barrio and Dumas won, keeping
Wesleyan in the match.

The golf team placed second in
the Kansas City Missouri
Tournament, April 10-11.
; Wesleyan trailed first place
team St. Mary's University by one
shot.
The team finished first in its
district and will compete in regional
play.
The team consisted of seniors
Tim McMillan and Jason Read,
junior David Hall and freshmen
Anthony Estorga and Stewart
Armstrong.
The team was missing senior
David West who had to make a trip
back home.
"With West missing we had the
opportunity to play a couple of guys
on the bubble. It was good to pre-
pare them for regionals," said head
coach Kevin Millikan. " It did make
an impact not having him there but
we should have still won."
McMillan, Reed and Estorga
finished in the top 10 individually
and were named to the All-
Conference Team.
"We did not play very well the
first day. We were losing by one
shot on the first day and tied on the
second day. We slacked off on the
first round of the first day and could
not come back," said Millikan.
The team will leave for region-
als, April 29 to play May 1-3 in
Bakersfield, California.,The top six
teams will advance to nationals in
late May.
