state commissioner ol statistics has re
ceutly gathered Information about the great
"l'anhandle" reglou of Texas which show
mat tne resources of this region until re-
cently almost Inaccessible and now almost
entirely uninhabited are such that the
whole section will most likely before many
years become one ul the richest agricultural
aud graxi.i r portions or the great south-
west. The "l'anhandle" lying bo
ew Mexico and the

paraiiei contains an area of nearly 6.1000
square mues which Is divided Into llfty-two
counties yet unorganised. A portion of it
is the elevated table land known as the
i.lano Estacado or Staked l'laln and the
other portion is a lower and more dlversi-
lieu plain which joins the Llano Kutacado
cm three sides. The Staked Plain which
