Hempstead June 27. Tbe night before
last the plantation of U. S. Quails a difficulty
took place betwoon one Walker and another
freedman Doe Mitchell which resulted in
tbe death of Walker. Tbe murderer es-
caped. Officers have been bunting him bin
as yet have found no trace. The difficulty
was about a woman who had her throat cut
with a razor during the fracas. She will
probably get well. Full particular! cannot
be ascertained.

It requires candidates for matrimonial
honors to procure a license from the recorder

the recorder that the aspirants are single

hands of a Mrs. Miller a party to suit in the
probate court here. Mrs. Miller is seiog
