East Texas, having been born
in Rusk county. He started his
career in the educational field
as a teacher in tihe public school
of Rusk county, where he
taught for eight years. He
then tauj^it for two years in
Baylor University at Waco.
Following this period in the
field of education, he held pas-
torates for a number of years
in Dublin, Vernon, andBmwiv
wood. While serving as Pas-
tor of jiie Baptist church in
vvnwood, he was tendered
the Presidency of Howard—
Payne College. He accepted

ed us of the death of one of
■Mineola"s old-time citizens, Mr.
Norman. P. Lewis, and while he
had been ill-health for several
months, yet his death came as
a shock-to his many friends.
Mr. Lewis was born August.
19th, 1858 in Thomas county,
Georgia,. and W|as married to
Miss Mary E. Shores in 1876,
and moved to Texas four years
