Mimi's Hands
Miranda Priddy
I've been told I have her smile,
But what I really want are her hands.
I want them to be as calm as hers,
neat and antique.
Each crevice earned.
Every sunspot, a story.
Elegant crossroads and byways,
The blue delicate veins have always known their
place.
Her hands were beautiful.
They always held me close.
Those hands were wrung throughout each year.
They took care of each other.
Perfumed wrinkled hands.
They massaged each cramp due to her tiny,
calculated stitches.
She made my Easter dresses.
I wish her hands could place my veil.
I hope to have inherited those hands,
Powerful and soft.
I want to watch my knuckles get knobby.65
