Just then a police car pulled up. The officer
stepped out of the car. "We heard reports of an
attack. Are you two alright?"
Tony and Judith answered, "Yeah."
The officer looked down. "Doesn't look
like you really need me. Do you want to press
charges?"
Tony looked at Judith, who looked at the
masked man. "No. I think he learned his lesson.
Besides, I've got this guy to protect me." Judith
winked at Tony, and just as he opened his mouth
to protest, she kissed him on the cheek. Tony
stood dumbstruck, then smiled.
The officer shrugged. "Alright then. I still
need to take this guy in and file some paperwork.
You two have a good night." The officer pulled
out handcuffs, secured the masked man, and
guided him into the back of the police cruiser.
Judith and Tony watched the cruiser drive away.
Tony looked at Judith and asked, "so does
this mean I get to walk you home?"
Judith smiled and reached for her satchel.
"Yeah, I guess it does."
Tony, without asking, put his arm around
her shoulders and said, "Alright. Let's go then.
It's been a long night."91
