International Students
Additional requirements apply to international students. International students must apply early
in order to allow opportunity for the completion of both the admission process to the University
and the requirements of the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration.
1. All international students must submit official copies of transcripts of all colleges and
universities attended. In order for transcripts to be official, they must be sent directly
from the student's college/university to the Office of Graduate Studies. Transcripts
sent to faculty or other offices on campus are not official. An English translation of
all course titles and grades awarded must be submitted, as well.
2. A student whose native language is not English must submit an official transcript,
sent directly from the testing agency to the Office of Graduate Studies of his/her score
on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
3. A statement certified by a responsible person that the student's finances are sufficient
to maintain him/her during the educational process at Hardin-Simmons University
is required for admission.
4. A one thousand dollar U.S. funds (US $1,000) deposit must be posted with the
Business Office. This deposit will be used toward payment of the final semester's
expenses, and will not be released at an earlier date. International students will not
be admitted, nor will an 1-20 permit be issued, until the deposit is recorded on the
University ledgers.
5. International applicants may not be given tentative status. All documents must be on
file in the Office of Graduate Studies a minimum of one month before the first day
of the term in which the student wishes to enroll.
6. The Office of Graduate Studies will issue the 1-20 when all above steps are com-
pleted. Any costs associated with sending the 1-20 other than regular U.S. mail are
the responsibility of the student.
Professional Teacher Certification
A student desiring to obtain a professional certification (one requiring graduate leveling work or
a master's degree) must apply for graduate study and receive the approval of the dean of the Irvin
School of Education or the university certification officer and the dean of graduate studies.
Second Master's Degree
A student may transfer a maximum of six hours from a previously completed master's degree
toward a second master's degree (consult section on transfer work in this catalog). Official tran-
scripts of both undergraduate and graduate work are required. The student must complete a
minimum of 60 hours on the two degrees. (For the Master of Divinity degree's policy for transfer
work from a previous master's degree in religion, please see Logsdon Seminary Catalog.)21
