* The university: A selective four-year private
Christian university. ACU includes the colleges
of Business Administration, Biblical Studies,
and Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School, the
Graduate School of Theology, and the Patty Hanks
Shelton School of Nursing. It is affiliated with the
Churches of Christ and is one of the largest private
universities in the Southwest.
* Academic programs*: Students may choose
from 60 baccalaureate majors that include more
than 100 areas of study, 27 master's degree
programs and one doctoral program.
* Accreditation: Abilene Christian University is
accredited by the Commission on Colleges of
the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools to award associate, baccalaureate,
master's and doctoral degrees.
* Students: About 4,800 students, including
approximately 4,250 undergraduates and 550
graduate students, generally from all 50 states
and about 60 other countries.
* Location: ACU is in Abilene, Texas, an
All-America City of 111,000 people 150 miles
west of the Dallas and Fort Worth area.
* Faculty: More than 200 full-time faculty
members with 90 percent of tenure-track faculty
holding terminal degrees. A student-to-faculty
ratio of less than 17:1.
* Financial aid: Ninety percent of ACU
freshmen receive financial aid. Last year,
the average amount of financial aid for
freshmen (a combination of scholarships,
grants, work-study and loans) was $11,250.

was $7,484. ACU offers an "Early Estimate
of Financial Aid" service to help students

* Annual cost: $20,862* for tuition, fees,
room and board, plus approximately $1,000
for textbooks.
* Health professional school acceptance rate:
More than 80 percent of ACU students who
apply for admission to medical and dental
schools are accepted, a rate more than double
the national average.
* Foreign study: ACU's Study Abroad programs
take students to study in places such as Europe,
Asia and Latin America.
* Campus Technology: Each residence hall has
a lab with Windows-based PC computers, and
several major buildings have wireless Internet
capability. Each ACU student has an email address
and access to the Internet and campus servers.
* Campus organizations: There are more than
90 campus clubs and groups in which students
can become involved, including seven men's
social clubs and six women's social clubs.
* Intramurals: About 3,000 students participate
each year in 22 intramural sports and other
activities. Students also can be involved in the
roller hockey, men's and women's soccer, and
bike clubs.
* Athletics: NCAA Division II, Lone Star
Conference. Football, men's and women's
basketball, baseball, men's golf, men's and
women's cross country, men's and women's
track and field, women's volleyball, men's and
women's tennis, and women's softball. ACU is
an annual contender for the United States Sports
Federation Directors Cup, recognizing the best
all-around sports program in NCAA Division II.
