Introduction
The Department of Sociology and Social Work builds upon the
university goals of strengthening Christian character and education
for service while addressing contemporary social issues and providing
a foundation for future personal and professional growth. Within this
focus, students may choose family studies, criminal justice, sociology or
social work as a major concentration while interacting with students
in the other areas of concentration.
The department is committed to attaining high standards in education
while offering personal guidance to students regarding their life
choices. Every faculty member holds or is actively pursuing a terminal
degree in an academic or professional field. Social work faculty
members are professionally experienced in such fields as child and
family services, mental health services, mental retardation services,
program planning, and research and administration. Sociology
and Family Studies faculty members have academic degrees and
professional experience in such areas as community services, marriage
and family life, religion, gerontology, research, administration, crime
and delinquency, interpersonal group skills, group leadership, business
and professional ethics, consultant services to business organizations,
and professional and personal growth, family violence, and health
care services.
