Pre-Engineering Program
After completing this program of study, a student can transfer to an
engineering school. A student may even elect to have conferred the
BS from ACU in addition to the engineering degree. Also, if a student
decides to remain at ACU after having been in the pre-engineering
program for some time, he or she will be able to fit all of his or her
course work into the engineering physics degree program. ACU
has a program designed to fit his or her needs and desires for
future employment.

Major and Minor
Political Science
The Department of Political Science offers the Bachelor of Arts degree
in political science. The department works with the Department of
Education to offer two-field teacher certification in political science or in
composite social science and another field (see the Education section of
this catalog). A minor in political science may be added to other majors.
Introduction
The purpose of the Department of Political Science is to help students
understand domestic and international politics and to prepare them
for informed and active participation in the political arena and
public service.
Opportunities for careers include:
* Government Service. Public service is a major emphasis of
the department. ACU's Public Service Internship Program gives
outstanding students part-time, public-sector work experience
along with their course work. Students are eligible for up to
6 hours credit in this program.
* Communication Journalism. Politics and media are intertwined,
and students preparing for a career in broadcasting or journalism
should be informed about politics and government.
* Law. Political science is an excellent preparation for law school,
and many recent graduates have gone on to successful careers in
the various fields of law.
* Secondary Teaching. The Department of History, in cooperation
with the Department of Political Science and the Department
of Education, offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in
interdisciplinary studies with a teaching specialization in
social studies.
* College Teaching. The department gives a broad exposure
to politics and government, which is excellent preparation for
graduate study and teaching at the community college, senior
college or university level.
Study Abroad Expectations
All students are encouraged to participate in ACU's Study Abroad
program. Classes offered at Study Abroad sites vary depending on
the site. Academic advisors can assist students in planning ahead for
their Study Abroad experience and should be consulted during the
freshman year.
