Washington 1). C. Dec. 10.
President Roosevelt last night made
public a long letter addressed to
Secretary Root giving tho corre-
spondence between President and
former Ambassador Bellamy Storer
at Vienna and Mrs. Storer in which
he says that Storer's refusal to ans-
wer his Utter concerning the pub-
lication of various private letters
Justified the ambassador's removal.
Also that Storer's publication of pri-
vate correspondence was peculiarly
uiigentlemanly und that he as the
President had stated with absolute
cltarness his position and the reason
why it was out of the question for
him us President to try to get any
archbishop mado a cardinal al-
though ho had expressed admiration
(or Archbishop Ireland as well as
for leaders of other denominations.
He further says ho thinks it well
that the members should know cer-
tains facts which he (Storer) eith-

Amarlllo Texas.
Dear Sir:
Referring to our conversation the
oth'M1 day:
For tho twelve months ending
July 31 1906. there were received
at stations on the Southern Kansas
Railway Company of Texas and the
Pecos & Northern Texas railway
3 T. 0 carloads of household goods
showing that tho actual settler has
been bringing his personal effects
t6 this country at a pretty rapid
rale. The movement of emigrant
outfits Is one of the boBt indications
I know of as tending to show the
extent to which our lino is being
settled up. I regret that I have no
statistics lor tbe corresponding pe-
riod of tho previous year for tho
purpose. of comparison. I havo how
ever some figures showing that for
the period from August to October
1005 inclusive there were unloaded
at pur stations in Texas 61 cars of
emigrant outfits while for tho sumo
period this year there wero unloaded
120 carloads showing a big increase.
We are ns you know doing every-
thing possible to encourage Immi-
gration towarjs tho Panhandle as
well as lo make the people feel sat-
isfied after they have cast their an
chor in our midst. Y'ours truly
