aiaaaippi atoamboata for over twenty yoara.
"We thus soe that throe of the prof ont pro-
priotora of the Laclede havo had a long ex-
perience in the practical details of hotel life
at least so far aa high living ia concerned
nd understand the secret in popularizing
hotels on torra lirma in the culinary depart-
ment. Those accustomed to travelling upon
6teamboats for tho past twenty years will
readily recall the elegant tables
spread and those stopping at the Laclede
hotel now will upon reading tlio bill of fare
be transported to the tables upon tho Missis-
sippi in tho days of yore. Tho mannor in
which tho various dishes aro sorvod hna
aaora to do in securing the unqualiilod ap-
orobation ot the euests than tho variety
which in conscience sake is all that
the moat fastidious epicure could desiro.
The proprietors of the Laclodo havo exhibited
unusual sagacity in employing ofllco clcrka of
long experience whose influence' by courte-
ous treatment and attontibn to guusts have
contributed largoly In popularizing hotel
with which they hare boon connected.
Thomas Pricbara for nine years with the
Olive Street hotel under live uilferont land-
lords and eight years at the Barnum on
Walnut street baa mado hosts of friends by
Wg courtesy and attention to guosta.
Wesley Owens for twelvo years at the
Barnum and several years at the Planters
md Laclede has contributed no little in
ecurina: the approbation of guests stopping
at those hotels.
' William Patten once the proprietor of
the Patten house New York subsequently
at the Linde.ll SI Louis hits accepted the
position of night clerk at the Laclede and ia
eminently qualified to assign pleasant rooms
to guesU arriving on late trains. Francis
Groen. cnshier for three years at the Wal
out street house In Cincinnati and for the
past two years at the Leolede retains bis sit-
uation for his bigh integrity and courteous
treatment to euesta when settling their bills.
Ia this connection we must not overlook
John Hamilton former bteward of the
Baldwin botel whose high reputation aa cate
er induced the proprietors of the Laclede to
secure bis services. We mention these em-
vlovos in order that our readers and the trav
olins- public may form some idea of the char
acter of the men who assist in conductinerthe
lAcledo. Over one hundred sorvants are em
ployed. The general management is
under control .of Sir. Chassaimr.
whose long experience in public life in this
direction makes him eminently fitted to se-
cure the confidence and approbation of the
traveling public. The Laclede to-day
from its near location to the business Dortion
of the city places of amusement and tneCen-
- tml dcuoL and with its present elesrant an-
pointmenta throughout will demand a larger
patronage than at any previous period of its
history.

conveniences that are found in any first-class
hotel in the country and oilers inducements
to the tra'cling public found in no other

thia writing the botel ia tilled with guests
