To the Kill lor of tho Herald :
The open letter in yesterday's IIkkai.d to
tho Executive committee of the Democratic
party in Texas is deserving cf careful read-
ing. In my judgment this communication tie-
monslratts the unfairness and inhorent vici-
ousness of tho present method of nominating
by conventions.
Tho sending of the cntiro primary vote
through all conventions to the tlnal one as
suggested in that communication in eminently
fair and will inevitably secure tho choice of
the people.
Tlii unseemly scandal and strife which lias
attended many conventions heretofore held
and the suspicion of juggling and trickery
engendered in tho public mind rcspectinii
them has tended to weaken tho Democratic
party and imperil tho election of its nomi-
nee". Tho people will horoafter demand the
most rigid fairness in all conventions seeking
to enunciate platforms and declare upon the
merits of candidates and It occurs to tho
writor that the mode Indicated in the letter
above referred to is well calculated to secure
honest and acceptable results.

Plllrord Wrtek.
The north-bound passenger train over the
Central road due hero at 7:30 was three
hours late yesterday morning. The delay
was occasioned y the wreck of a freight
train just below Navatota where it had
broken through a bridge over a small stream.
8li loaded cam were thrown from the track
but no on was hurt. The passenger had to
wait until the wreck wa cleamd and the
bridge repaired before it could proceed.

Afraid of tlio Nihilists.
New York 'ii'Umne
Nillilists have been discovered aiming the
servants of tlie Winter l'lilacc. Sonic
of tho valets de chauibre who were ap
pointed for atti'iiilance on. the Cnr him-
self had aroused suspicions by their man-
ner which betrayed a certain unaccount-
able preoccupation cf mind. It was
moreover discovered that they wero in
the habit of leaving the rooms allolted to
them in a w ing of tlie palace at nightfall and
of not returning before four or live o'clock in
thu morning. Count Aillerherg being informed
of these circumstance by some of the O-ar's
faithful domestics gave orders that the sus-
pected members of the household should be
watched and without delay proceeded to
search their rooms. This led to the discov-
ery of Nihilist manifestoes pamphlets pro-
clamations and a Mud of diary in which the
daily occupations and movements of the
C.ar were carefully registered. His
daily habits the hour of his
walks every particular of his life were thus
known to the Nihilists The conspirators
who have just been discovered in the iialace
aro also suspected of being accomplices In
tlio attempt miuluon tho hie ot the IV.ar at
Moscow. The Nilhilist proclamation
seized in the looms of these
servants aro printed with typo in very re-
spect similar to that of tho imperial printing
establishment of the Senate and il is thought
tho printing characters were stolen from that
estnblbhmont by some of thu printers em-
ployed in it who aro in league with tlio
Nihilist committee.
