day of the Rochester races. From ten
to twelve thousand people were pres-
ent. Charles Marvlu drove Smuggler
aud Pete Johnson Bodlne.
First heat Free-for-all Bodlne
drew the pole Smuggler second Ful-
lertou third Lucille fourth (Joldust
fifth. The outside start was to Bodiue's
advantage but he Immediately went
up aud fell to the rear; Fuliertou led
all the way to the three-quarter pole
Smuggler graduully closing up. During
the muguiiiccnt race up the home
stretch Smuggler passed Fuliertou
winning the heat by nearly two
lengths amid tremendous cheering.

Second heat Smuggler a hot favor-
ite in the pools selling at $100 while
the fluid sold only from $20 to $30.
Fuliertou was given a poor start the
others even; at the quarter Smuggler

dous spurt while Lucille slipped and
