DALLAS COUNTY.
INFORMATION FOR EMIOIIANTS.
Wo have eomo to tho conclusion
that tho boat way to give informa-
tion to emigrants is by answering
such qnostions as aro propounded
by porsons desiring to come to this
country. In doing so we shall say.
something that wo onco thought
was known to all tho world "and
tho rest of mankind." People of
tins country who aro not in the
habit of rocoiving lottors of inqui
ry can form no adoquato idoa of
tho ignoranco that prevails in oth-
er States in roforonce to this coun-
try. Almost everybody knows that
Toxas is a good country aud os-
pocially Northwest Toxas. It is tol-
erably woll known that ihia is the
only country in tho world whore
both wheat and cotton grow to per-
fection ; that wo havo a fertile soil
a healthy and salubrious climate
aro facts of general notorioty. But
as to the products of this country
boyond wheat and cotton the rail-
road facilities the size of towriB
and citios the churches school-
houses public librarios. newspapers
and stato of eocioty in gouoralthey
know nbBolutoly nothing.
Tho questions that are askod
about this county and city are not
only surprising but mortifying.
What do tho citiz ohb of this enter-
prising aud flourishing city think
of intelligent men in enlightened
countries asking suoh questions as
"How far aro you from arailroad?"
"How far from the Texas and Pa-
cific railro? Have you a rows-
paper published in your town?"
To many of our citizens it will
seem incrediblo but'it is novor-
tholess true' that scarcely a day
passes that we do not receivo ft let-
ter asking us if wo havo a newspa-
per published at Dallas and if so
please sond them a copy. 1 .
Have we a "newspaper" publish-
ed in Dallus ? Yes ; wo havo three
spicy woekly papers and as live a
daily as can bo found anywbore
and hope Boon to havo a largo book
printing and binding establish-
ment and then wo intond to print
fivo h unci rod thousand copios of
"What wo know about Texas" and
what everybody else ought to
know. We will givo some ques
tions in tho letters lying boforo us
and brief and truthful answers :
"Havo you a good farming coun-
try?" ::;.':: f 7
5 Wo havo ; whoat corn cotton
oats rye barely millet and Hun
garian grass all grow finoly in this
county.
" Can you raise vogotablos in your
part of tho country?"
Wo can raise evory vogo table
that grows in tho tomporate zono
and many that bolong to tho torid
zono:" n i v ? w
"Can you grow fruit in your
country?"
For peaches this country is supe
rior to any country wo over saw.
Pears plums appricots and grapes
grow vory finoly and bananas and
figs bave been successfully grown
in this country.
"Haveyou a good country for
stock; raising ?"f -jv'T"-
Not in tho sonse in which stock
raising is usually understood in
Texas that is to try to raise them
on the range without any food ;
this is a prairio country but it is
. .!' !JIJ 1 ' ' a a l' a
Deing rapiuiy ioncea up so Hint
tho range will shortly be destroy-
ed ; but this is a very. healthy
country for cattle and in tho future
it will pay to food joattlo r in i this
putry. : . ....
What are lands worth ?" " '
Lands in this county first-class
black-waxy soil frora'two'to twen-
ty feot deep convenient 16' rail-
roads wood and water are worth
from four to eight dollars per
aero;
"Is that a good country for
mechanics ?"
It Is especially for carpentors :
a great deal of building is going
on in this country and moro than
four thousand pooplo have sottled
in the city of Dallas within the
last twelvo months. There is a
great demand for brick-masons in
this city. " " ;
" What Is the population of Dal-
las ? Is it improving? Is it on tho
Trinity rlvor do boaU ovor run to
Dallas?" ..
i Dallas is on tho east sido of the
Trinity river and has a popula-
tion of about 7000 -it has moro
than doubled itsolf within tho lust
twelve months and is improving
very rapidly steamboats havo run
to Dallas but on account of tho
snags in the rivor navigation has
for the prcBont boon abandoned.
" What are your Railroad facil-
ities and prospects ?"
Tho Houston & Texas Central
Railroad runs through this city
and connects with tho M. K. & T.
at Rod River thus plaoing us in
direct communication both with
Galveston on tho Gulf and Saint
Louis. Tho Texas & Pacific road
is graded from hero to Longviow
tho presont torminus of that road.
Tho track is being laid from here
East and we will soon be in di-
rect communication with Jefferson
Now Orleans Memphis nnd Vicks-
burg Tho Dallas & Wichita road
has been commenced running from
horo northwest. Wo will proba-
bly havo tho St. Louis Sprincfiold
& Rio del Nortoroad running thro'
this county from Northeast to
Southwest and these with the
Dallas & Palistino road running
from here to tho Southeast wo will
havo railroads pointing to Dallas
not from the four but from the
eig ht points of tho compass. .

TWO WOloNlraxslLOCK.
The Awful End of the Batiy Farmer
of Maple The Neck of Two Mar-
drrcue Bared to the Axv-Roee Por.
ro and Margarita Coraldi Expiating
their Unparalleled Crime.
The two bady farmers of Naples whose
appalling orlmes have already been nar-
rated in the volumes of the "North-East
Georgian" recently paid the penalty for
their deeds on the block in the Castle
d'Nove near Naples. The prisoners were
brought before a judge and jury and af-
ter a brief trial during which tho most re-
volting details of their terrible crime
were elicited both Rose ajid Porro and
Margarile Coraldi were sentenced to death.
The soene in the court room on their be-
ing pronounced guilty was effecting in the
extreme the women (sobbing hysterically
and kneeling in the doek to supplicate for
meroy. A Naples letter thuB describe!
the execution : . t '
Early yesterday morning when hardly
a soul was astir in the narrow and bo'.s-
'teroui thoroughfares of Naples an omin
ous looking vehiole stood In front of the
Perfeot's chamber near the Chiaja. On
the uppermost floor of the prlson is the.
onapei wuere ine condemned women were
attending mass their last; mass aud
the mourning strains of the "Miserere"
chanted by the SiBters in the choir could
be heard gloomily wafting through the
long ooridore. The prisoners still in
black knelt near the altar and at the
appointed time received .their last com.
munion.
4 I ' ' TO Till: EXECUTION.
I ''
Towards half -past six the prisoners
flanked by an eacort of ten gendarmes and
preoeded by three olergymon move from
the chapol to the tan in front of the prls-
on door. Thaun contained the prison-
ere the obaplain and two assistants two '
Sinters ef Cbariey the prefeot and his
lieutenant and the usual guards on the
outside. While the van was rolling over
the pavement on its way to the Castle
d Nove whloh is built right on the edge of
the Bay of Naples many barsh comments
wera made from groups of stragglers
while an occasional merolful one vouou- 1
safod an ejaoulatlon suoh as "The Lord
have meroy upon them I" for well they all
knew the mission of the rusty wheeled
b lack van of the prljon. During the te-
dious drive theprisonors prayed and sob-
bed alternately and spoke little and only
n whispers to the kind Bisters of Charl-
ty who never oeated offering them reli.
gious consolation. ...
A guard of polioemen'ocotipled the gates
of Castle d'Nove and dolled their hats
when the van drove up and the perfeot
made his appearance. The gate being
thrown open the prisoners were led thro'
lung .tony passageway darkoned by
high walls. Upon reaohing tht rooms of
the jailor . . v

assisted by other women . removed th.
oloaks and bonnet of the prisoners. The
priests sisters of charity and prisoners
hen knelt and prayed the offioere stand
ing round- with bowed and uncovered
heads. At the close of the prayers for the
dying the exeoutloner appeared wearing
a black mask and blaok single shirt. As-
sialed by the jailor the executioner pin-'
ioned tho arms of the criminals. The plain
white collars areund the doomed women's
necks were removed and all being roady
the living cortege movod through two pas-
ssgoways uutil the place of execution pre-
sented Itself It was a vory unique sight.
At the extremity of a small stone-surrounded
and stone-bottomed yard is a flat
rock shaped into a platform about eight1
feeftqtiare and two iu height. On one
ondofthls old stage upon which only
the last aot ia ever porformed there is a
very narrow step for only the exeoutloner
and his help the jailer use it In the oen-
tre of the platform stood a block the old
block mentioned above with a little bolt
or hook in front for fastening the neck se-
curely. The unfortunate women when
confronting this soene prayed aloud and
oried hysterically. The usual prayers
werereoited and when concluded the
jailor passed to the exeoutloner a long in-
strument in an anolont looking scabbard
of leather oevered with steel and brass

Coraldi was led to the block. Bhe prayed
constantly and did not evince any great

the front of the neck remained unout and
the body springing back exposed a ghast-
ly gap whioh made every speotator shud-

the body and its head and both were re- t
moved in a litter to await like Forro's .
corpse burial in uneonseorated ground. '
