Ward L. Huey Jr.
Ward L. Huey Jr., vice chairman of the board and
president, broadcast division, A. H. Belo Corporation,
has an extensive background in broadcast operations
and management.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University, Huey
joined the WFAA-TV production department in 1960. He
rose rapidly through the management ranks, and on
Jan. 1, 1975, Huey was named vice president and general
manager of Belo Broadcasting Corporation with man-
agement responsibilities for all Belo radio and television
properties and was also elected to its board of directors.
Huey became president and chief executive officer of
Belo Broadcasting Corporation on April 27, 1981, and was
elected to the board of directors of A. H. Belo Corpora-
tion on April 20, 1982. In 1987, he was elected vice
chairman of the board and president of the broadcast di-
vision of A. H. Belo Corporation. He serves on the A. H.
Belo Corporation management committee.
A native of Dallas, Huey is a past chairman of the
ABC Television Affiliates Board of Governors, a past
member of the board of directors of the Television Bu-
reau of Advertising, vice chairman of the board of direc-
tors of the Maximum Service Telecasters, and past
chairman of the board of directors of the Television Op-
erators Caucus. He also is involved in a variety of other
professional and civic organizations.
James P. Sheehan
James P. Sheehan joined A. H. Belo Corporation as
senior vice president and chief financial officer in Feb-
ruary 1982 and was elected to the Board of Directors in
April 1982. He became executive vice president of Belo in
1984, and in January 1987 he became president and chief
operating officer.
Prior to joining Belo, he spent eight years with Unit-
ed Technologies Corporation and most recently was vice
president and controller of the Pratt and Whitney Man-
ufacturing Division.
He received a B.S. from Seton Hall University and an
M.B.A. in finance from Wayne State University. From
1967 to 1969 he served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Sheehan serves on the University of Texas at
Dallas Development Board, Dallas Citizens Council, St.
Paul Medical Center Foundation and is active in numer-
ous industry organizations.
Burl Osborne
Burl Osborne joined The Dallas Morning News as
executive editor in October 1980 and added the title of
vice president in 1981. In 1983, he was named senior vice
president and editor; in 1985, he became president and
editor; and he was elected to the board of directors in
May 1987 and was named publisher of The Morning News
in 1991.
Mr. Osborne came to The News after 20 years with
the Associated Press, where he started as a correspon-
dent and editor-reporter, served in a variety of manage-
ment positions and became managing editor in 1977.
He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and
mathematics from Marshall University, West Virginia,
and a master's degree in business from Long Island Uni-
versity.
He is chairman of the American Press Institute, di-
rector and former president of the American Society of
Newspaper Editors and a director of the Foundation for
American Communications, among others. He is a mem-
ber of the Pulitzer Prize Board and the Advisory Council
of the University of Texas at Austin, College of Commu-
nications Foundation.
. James M. Moroney
James M. Moroney Jr. is the son of the late James
M. Moroney and the late Maidie Dealey Moroney. He
was born in Dallas, attended Highland Park School and
St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. He grad-
uated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1943.
During summer vacations, he worked part-time at radio
and television stations WFAA and The Dallas Morning
News.
During World War II, he entered the U.S. Navy, ris-
ing to the rank of lieutenant (jg). He saw much action,
including the D-Day landing in Normandy. He was re-
leased from active duty in 1946.
