COMMUNITY NEWS
Relatives and friends attended a very special and wonderful occasion on
November 26 at Golden Bo Restaurant: the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. H.L. Jow. The dinner was hosted by their children, Josephine Jue, Mylew Ligh,
Vance Jow, Houston Jow and Sonny Jow.
Congratulations to Journal writer San-
dra Wong Der Bing, who recently was
selected to receive a scholarship in the
Respiratory Therapist Program she has
been taking at Houston Community Col-
lege. Sandra, wife of Bill Der Bing, Jr., is a
fine example of today's generation of Chi-
nese American women —raising two
llll children, pursuing a new profession, and
still finding time to involve herself in the
community through her excellent contri-
butions to the Journal.
December was quite a month for
Michael Y. Chou, president of Quadrant
Consultants, Inc. On December 20, he
and wife Lily became parents of 7-pound,
7-ounce Wei, their first heir.
Little Wei, in turn, will be quite proud of
his dad if he should happen to turn to the
pages of this month's Houston City Mag-
azine, out in December, which named
Michael as one of "The 84 Most Interest-
ing People of 1984."
A Houston resident for nearly ten years,
Michael is chairman of the board of Hous-
ton Public Theatre, president of the U S.-
China Peoples' Friendship Association,
and a coordinator of the Council of Asian
American Organizations
Doris and Lonnie Liu became the
proud parents of Jacqueline Jade, born
December 3, 7 20 p.m., weighing 7
pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 21
inches long. Proud grandparents are Mr
and Mrs Bor G. Leong and Mr. and Mrs
Pang Liu.
Don and Lucy Lim hosted a Christmas
Day party and open house at their beauti-
ful new home in Kingwood Lucy, who at
one time studied interior design, planned
the house and did much of the
landscaping.
Alvin Gee, CPP, photographed the world premiere of "Sudden Impact," the latest
Clint Eastwood film, to benefit the American Paralysis Association A reception was
held at the home of Houston socialite Carolyn Farb. Pictured are Alvin Gee and
Clint Eastwood.
On December 4 Tommy Joe and Irene
Chou were married at Faith Memorial
Baptist Church A reception followed at
Golden City Restaurant.
San Franciscan Janita Gee came home
to Houston for the Christmas holidays,
greeted by the arrival of niece Kristen
Gale Wu on December 12. Kristen,
weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces, is the
daughter of Judge and Mrs. Ted Wu
(Linda), and the granddaughter of Mrs
Rose Wu of San Antonio and Mrs. Jane
Eng Gee of Houston.
Paul Chung, son of Mr and Mrs. Wil-
liam Chung, and Helen Yee, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Yee, are formally
engaged after seven years of steady dat-
ing since age 16 Helen continuestoward
an M D A. at the University of Texas,
while Paul studies for his law degree at
the same school Their marriage, after
the completion of their respective degree
programs, is scheduled for June of 1985
Dr. Edward C M. Chen happily reports
that the Young Chinese American Coun-
cil dance was a huge success, with 400 in
attendance. Co-sponsored by the Chi-
nese American Citizens Alliance, it was
held at the Southwest Hilton Hotel.
Mamie Moy is the chairperson-elect of
the Southeast Section of the American
Chemical Society.
Clark K H Chen of the Houston office
of the Coordinating Council of North
American Affairs for the Republic of
China on Taiwan has been transferred to
the home office in Taipei.
Dr and Mrs Richard W Leong and
their family enjoyed the Christmas holi-
days with a round-trip airplane treat from
son Richard, Jr and his wife Janice to
their Florida home Richard, Jr., an elder
in his church, invited his friends to many
parties in honor of his family
Alice Gee, daughter of Mr and Mrs.
George Gee (Gloria), is engaged to Peter
Liu, employed by General Dynamics in
Fort Worth as an electrical engineer.
Alice is a computer programmer at Al
Johnson Co.
Pam Chang, daughter of Hanan and
Betty Chang, is to be married on January
1, 1984 in Dallas, Texas
In Houston for the holidays are Jas-
mine and Al Lim and daughter Pam, from
San Leandro, California, who are visiting
Jasmine's sister Faye Chin
Marguerite Gee from Washington, DC,
is visiting George and Gloria Gee for the
holidays.
