If you happen to be a sports fan this is possibly
the best time of the year for enjoying any of your
favorite passtimes. There are so many things going
on at this point of the year that there is a great
amount of confusion as to what to do next.
It is like being on Let's Make A Deal if you don't
like the first thing that you win you can trade for
what's behind door number one two or three. Which
ever door or sport in this case that you choose you
come out a winner in this particular incident.
Texas and Ft. Hood especially has more sports ac
tivities than Carter has little liver pills. Any sport
that you may desire to watch is at hand but the
problem still remains what one should do next thus
creating confusion.
If you're really interested being a "sports nut" is
not a prerequisite there is plenty to do or to watch in
this area. In recent months only the sport of football

Now that the calendar has been flipped over a few
times it's time for more sports to get into the
limelight. Familiar sports like hockey basketball and
hunting are becoming more common as we start into
this new season of sports.

It is a known fact that Ft. Hood is not just com
posed of native "Texans" but has a population that
contains people from places ranging from Detroit
Mich. to Miami Fla. and well just all over the
place. The taste in sports for the individual is as
varied as the 31 different flavors offered by Baskin
and Robbins.
If you happen to be from the Midwest you cer
tainly are more prone to like basketball because for
one reason in many of the schools in that part of the
country that is the year-round sport.
Texas has something for those folks from the Mid

west to cure the basketball blues two professional
teams. Also right here at Ft. Hood the troops have
a post team that competes on the college level. The
professional leagues the ABA and the NBA are
represented in the form of the San Antonio Spurs and
the Houston Rockets respectively.
Hockey is not all that common in Texas but it is
quickly becoming one of the most popular so Texas
has reacted by getting a professional team. Now it
doesn't take a ten minute reading in the almanac to
realize that a person from Boston would care more
about hockey than eating a pot of baked beans.
Again Texas has rescued those hockey fans who
miss the action of the sport that occurs in the north.
Houston boasts a team that participates in the World
Hockey Association and Dallas and Fort Worth both
have teams in the Central Hockey League. Both are
minor league clubs.

Rod and Gun Club which is the center of the hunting
operations on Ft. Hood. The hunting branch as part of
this organization is always there to give guidance on
all the hunting laws and requirements necessary for
the individuals taking part. Deer season is ap
proaching very soon and there is plenty of game
around the area.
As part of the outdoor activities the people at Ft.
Hood have their own fishing club the most recent
being the newly formed Ft. Hood Bass Club which
sponsors tournaments throughout the year for the
fisherman's pleasure.
It is easy to understand why there are so many
residents of Ft. Hood who are uncertain what sport to
attend for their particular fancy. One thing is for
sure this is the best time of the year for a selection
to be. made by the sports fan avid or otherwise. The
aforementioned sports are just a sample of the
numerous activities going on in this area.
