Picnic Meet
The NCO wives of the 53d Sig
nal Battalion held a cold luncheon
picnic on Wednesday Aug. 20 at
the Tubbs Picnic Grounds.
Mrs. Smith won the door prize
and Mrs. Gandee mother of Mrs.
Smith was the honored guest.

Club.

Forthcoming charitable and so
cial activities of officers wives
of the CCA 1st Armored Divi
sion were discussed at an in
formal coffee recently in the home
of Mrs. Charles J. Girard wife
of Colonel Girard commander of
the 1st Armored Division.
Wives of the battalion command
ers and representatives of the
Headquarters group were the
guests. The ladies agreed to sup
port the Post Thrift Shop by so
liciting two volunteer workers
from each unit who could donate
time weekly. The volunteers will
receive free nursery privileges
during the hours donated.
CCA Officers' wives will sup
port the U. S. Army Hospital by
sponsoring a party for the pa
tients in October. Also the group
will continue to supply refresh
ments for the Killeen USO Cit
izenship graduation exercises
which are held twice a year.
The new hospitality chairman
for Headquarters ladies is Mrs.
Robert E. Nicodemus.
Preliminary plans to renew the
1st AD ladies bridge day were
made with definite details to be
announced in the near future.
1st Cavalry
The monthly luncheon for ladies
of the 1st Cavalry recently at the
Fort Hood Officers Club had as
hostesses Mesdames James Am-
long Francisco Diaz-Estrella and
Richard T. Woodman.
Special guest was Mrs. Joseph
Eichman mother of Mrs. William
Dickey.
The group bade farewell to Mrs.
Johnny H. Spencer wife of Maj.
Spencer who retires this month.
Also given a farewell was Mrs.
Robert Smith whose husband is
leaving for an assignment in
Germany.
The ladies were presented with
gifts by Mrs. William D. Meara
on behalf of the group.
Thrift Shop volunteers will be
Mrs. William White and Mrs. Al
bert Lawson.
A group of seven women will
represent the battalion on a tour
of the Post Commissary Sept. 1
with the tour beginning at 9 a.m.
A pair of homemade floral
scented candles were presented as
door prizes to Mrs. Robert Hunn
and Mrs. Joseph Francis.

Takes Part In
Sabbath Services
Last Friday evening's Sabbath
Service at the 268th St. Chapel
featured a special guest chaplain-
the naming of a baby and news
of the coming swim-picnic.
Chaplain (Capt.) Alfred S.
Dreyfus of the 329th General
Hospital Unit here on two weeks
annual active duty training took
part in the service with Chaplain
(1st Lt.) Paul H. Levinson. Chap
lain Dreyfus is the Rabbi for the
congregation B'nai Israel in his
home town Galveston.
In brief remarks said Chaplain
Dreyfus said he was impressed
by the spirit of the congregation.
The baby Eric Gordon is the
son of Sgt. Joel and Joyce Eskow
of Co. B 1st Cavalry. 1st Armored
Division.
A reminder and welcome was
extended to everyone to attend
the swim-picnic at pool no. 2
sponsored this month by the
Jewish Welfare Council of Waco
2 p.m. Sunday August. 28. In the
event of rain the picnic will be
held at the social hall across the
street from the 268th St. Chapel.

Film Slated
At Religious
Ed. Center
A film titled "Stay on Strang
er" will be shown Sunday from
5:30 to 6:30 at the Religious Ed
ucation Center.
The film about a Sunday School
teacher has special appeal to
junior and senior high students.
Parents are also invited so they
will be able to discuss the film
with their children.
The film is part of a vocational
program being launched for young
people.
It is hoped that in the future
the program will be expanded to
include Beginners of the Chapel
Primaries of the Chapel Juniors
of the Chapel Junior Highs of
the Chapel Senior Highs of the
Chapel. Women of the Chapel
Men of the Chapel and Nursery
for babies.
This will require many new vol
unteers. Volunteers are asked to
