ability SFC Henry P. Aszklar has
been presented the Army Com
mendation Medal.
The 649th Quartermaster Com
pany Mess Steward was presented
the medal Friday (June 17) by
Maj. Gen. Edward G. Farrand
post commander at the com
mander's conference.
He was cited for his duties
with the petroleum supply unit
from January 1959 to June 17
1960.
His citation accompanying the
medal read in part:
"He was confronted with many
varied problems resulting from
the unit's permanent change in
station and an extended field ex
ercise. Through ardous hours of
diligent labor wide professional
knowledge and by giving freely
of his off-duty time all mess
problems were solved effectively.
His ability as a Supervisor has
been proven by the receipt of four
Best Mess Awards for the Unit
and his receipt of numerous writ
ten and verbal commendations
on the preparation of food and the
appearance of the Mess Hall. Due
to his personal efforts the Unit
Mess has consistantly received
Superior ratings."
Sergeant Aszklar is to retire
from military service soon.

An Indian Army officer left
Fort Hood Monday after a week
of observing Fort Hood adminis
tration and training activities.
Major Gurcharan Singh Sandhu
arrived here June 13 to begin a
visit that included attendance at
two baseball games.
On the first day of his visit
Major Sandhu saw driver testing
conducted by the 58th Infantry
and 3.5 rocket launcher familiar
ization firing conducted by 15th
Cavalry.
Later in the week he observed
these other activities:
Reconnaissance training irv
filtration course procedures bay
onet training 4.2 mortar qualifi
cation and fire-direction proce-
dure Trainfire and practical ex
ercise with grenades.
He also was briefed on the
organization and operation of an
armored division staff.
Sgts. Wiley Vanhoozer Joe S.
Unsell and Sp-5 James Hicks have
joined Company D 37th Armor
2d Armored Division.

Scout
News
Cub Scout Pack III
This month's meeting of Cub
Scout Pack III promises to be
a gala affair. This coming Sun
day June 26 4:45 p.m. at Swim
ming Pool No. 2 just off South
Avenue. The meeting will start
with ceremonies and advance
ment awards.
Following the opening cere
monies the Cub Scout Olympic
games will be held. Events will
includes three legged races dis
cus throw sack races etc. with
awards to the winners. After
everyone has worked up a good
appetite Den members and Par
ents will be will be served
dinner a la family style. The
Webloes will have a Den table
also. Soft drinks will be furnished
by the Pack.
Parents with boys of Cub Scout
age who wish to enter them in
Pack III are invited to attend.
They are requested however to
bring enough food for thier own
family as the other parents of
the Pack are doing.

Holds Meet

A nominating committee to pre
pare a slate of candidates for the
coming year was chosen at the
June 16 meeting of the Amateur
Radio Club of Fort Hood.
Serving on the committee-are
Charles Crabtree Tony Schneid
er (KN5ZEV) John Blain (K5U-
JZ) Jack Hogue (K5ZQA) and
Chuck Liebau (W3EEO).
The club meets the first and
third Thursday of each month at
the Fort Hood MARS station. Vis
itors and prospective members
are welcome.

He also outlined to the students
and guests the progress of the
division over the past 10 years
which culminated "in the greatest
summer training period in the
history of the 90th Division" ac
cording to Gen. Sutton. The 90th
some 7000 strong completed an
nual active duty training at North
Fort Hood last week.

Senior Master Sergeant is Grover W. Nielsen of Corvallis

Village. The sergeant's promotion is only one grade away from
the Air Force's top rank for enlisted men.

Lt. Col. James F. Fewster last
week left Fort Hood for Fort
Bragg N. C. where he will be
post Quartermaster.
Colonel Fewster was 2d Ar
mored Division Quartermaster
Officer and commander of the 2d
Quartermaster Battalion while at
Fort Hood. Succeeding him is
Maj. James DeFreest.
Before levaing here Colonel
Fewster was presented a Certifi
cate of Achievement that lauded
him for his work from July 1958
until this month.
Said the Certificate:
"Colonel Fewster insured the
economical utilization of supplies
and equipment within the 2d
Armored Division. Through his
extensive professional knowledge
he was directly responsible for
the initiation of a Central Issue
arid Turn-in Facility which re
sulted in extensive monetary
savings and more effiicent utiliza
tion of manpower within the Di
vision."
The Certificate said the colo
nel's efforts are reflected in the
superior ratings awarded to his
battalion for the Command Main
tenance Inspections of 1959 and
1960 and the Annual General In
spection of 1959.

Lt. Melvin E. Meister last week
was cited for serving with distinc
tion as commander of the 502d
Administration Company 2d Ar
mored Division.
He was awarded a Certificate
of Achievement that said in part:

Greek Army
Chief Nurse
To Visit Hood
The Chief Nurse of the Greek
National Army will visit Fort
Hood next Tuesday primarily for
a look at the Fort Hood Army
Hospital.
Lt. Col. Cleopatra Avayainou is
making a three-week tour of.the
Fourth U. S. Army area under
sponsorship of the Surgeon Gen
eral Department of the Army in
Washington D.C.
She first arrived in the area
June 11. The colonel has been
getting briefings on medical ac
tivities and observing nursing
techniques at Brooke Army Medi
cal Center Fort Sam Houston.
Colonel Avayanou is scheduled
to arrive at Fort Hood about 9:30
.m. anl leave a 4:30 p.m.
Accompanying the nurse during
her visit is Lt. Col. Mabel Ham-
merlund Chief of the Fourth U.. S.
Army Medical Section Nursing
Branch.
