Corps Wives' Mardi Gras
The feeling of carnival permea
ted the V.I.P. Room of the Officers'
Open Mess last Tuesday February
26 as the HI Corps Officers' Wives
introduced Mardi Gras luncheon
style at the monthly meeting of
the group.
Topped with a galaxy of multi
colored streamers pennants bal
loons lanterns and centered by
a brilliant grant cockerel the fies
ta theme continued onto the table
where old world steins and mugs
served uniquely as dispensers of
noisemakers and balloons.
The festivity opened with a
sherry hour served by the hand
somely costumed carnival commit
tee whose enthusiasm was in evi
dence everywhere. A wandering
minstrel in the person of an ac
cordionist serenaded the ladies.
The surprise of the occasion
was the enthroning of the Mar
di Gras Queen who won the
right by a lucky drawing by
Mrs. G. W. Coolidge.
Mrs. Bradford Butler held the
lucky number and "Queen Con-
crowned by the carnival
clown. Mrs. Rudolph M. Eichorn
led the "parade" to the buffet
table.
The traditional roast pig of "Fat
Tuesday" held the spot of honor
on the table in a vivid version
de papier. New Orlenas dishes in
Creole style were included in the
menu.
Mrs. Joseph M. McCarthy
incoming chairman greeted the la
dies and their guests and intro
duced "first timers" to the HI
Corps groups who were: Mesdames
John Berry William Blake Rho-
man Clem N. B. Cobb Dean Con-
stidine Thomas Dooley Walter
