Another in a series of exercises
by 1st Armored Division units was
completed last week.
The last of the Division's three
major combat commands Reserve
Command concluded its three-day
exercise Wednesday March 24
against an "enemj" whose resist
ance was rejuvenated by enthus
iastic umpires.
Tuesday March 23 the com
mand composed of the 100th Tk
Bn 702nd Armored Infantry Battal
ion A Company of the 81st Recon-
r.aisance Battalion and Com
pany of the 13th Tank Battalion-
exploded against enemy resistan
ce and plowed deep into "Aggres
sor" territory capturing designat
ed objectives much quicker than
anticipated.
Apparently enemy resistance
had collapsed but the umpires liv
ened things up early Wednesday
morning by calling for an Aggres
sor attack on Reserve Command
positions. Reserve Command
which was acting as the leading
element of the 1st Armored Divi
sion in a hypothetical combat sit
uation—crushed the attack and
led by the 100th Tank Battalion-
counterattacked.
The exercise represented a sound
victory for the command. Reserve
ammunition but was fighting real
soldiers Aggressor enemy troops
provided by the 1st Armored Di
vision's 701st Armored Infantry
Battalion.
Playing a part in the Reserve
Command exercise were simulat
ed explosions of atomic bombs
and use of searchlights to illumi
nate the battlefield area. Light air
craft also played prominent role
in the exercise.

Reserve Command Finishes
Successful Field Exercise
During the critique period follow
ing the maneuver umpires and
other observers remarked that the
command had conducted an ex
cellent night march under blackout
conditions and radio silence. Means
of control other than radio were
used during the march.
For Col. William H. S. Wright
commanding officer of Reserve
Command it was the first field
exercise with his ornanization. He
took command of Reserve Com
mand the first week in March.
