On Thursday evening one of
our faithful senior hostesses Mrs.
Gladys Stippick who has been
away on vacation was back at
her post of duty at the informa
tion desk and we are glad to
have her back. All kinds of games
were played on the patio where
it is always delightfully cool. Some
of our GSO Hostesses came for
a or in to a a
looking toward the fall months.
Thursday night is of course the
time for servicemen and hostess
es to arrange records for the Sat
urday night dances and every one
always has a good time.
Friday night was game night
at USO and a good time pre
vailed throughout the evening.
Saturday morning there was
good listening to record music
and surely on Saturday afternoon
Tom Haley and Marion Smith of
McCloskey V. A. Hospital were in
USO to assist the fellows with
leathercraft. The servicemen are
enjoying this art very much and
are turning out some very lovely
leather work. Then after spend
ing most of the afternoon work
ing on leathercraft they are off
to "browse" around town and then
return in time for the Saturday
Night Dance.
By the way this was "GI Birth
day Party and Dance Night."
Several of the fellows have birth
days in the month of August and
as usual these servicemen were
recognized and each one was pre
sented with a small gift. Refresh
ments were provided and served
by members of the Bell County
Medical Auxiliary whose presi
dent is Mrs. R. N. Bartels. There
was good attendance at the dance
and quite naturally everyone re
luctantly left the dance floor as
the last strains of that lovely num
ber "I'll see You In My Dreams"
faded into the night.
Sunday morning the Young
Adult Department of the First
Mandel as chairman will be in
charge of the regular 8:30 Java
Hour. At the close of this hour of
fellowship servicemen will be tak
en to the Church of their choice
for the morning services.
In the afternoon that lovely la
dy Mrs. Joe Mize will again be
at the piano to play for the Sing
Along and Miss Daphna Carter
USO Staff Aide will lead the sing
ing. There is always a good time
in store for those who participate
in the Sing Along hour. Come
along and enjoy singing with the
group.
The ladies of the Avenue G.
Church of Christ whose pastor is
Reverend James LeFan will pro
vide the food for the 5 O'Clock
Dinner Bell hour and hosts and
hostesses from this church will be
at the refreshment table to serve
the food. There is always a good
attendance at this hour natural
ly because the food is furnished
by the churches of our city and
it is always free.
The servicemen join the Staff
of USO in expressing our appre
ciation to all these people. After
supper there will be more sing
ing and all sorts of games on
the patio.
