Lt. Col. Kellton S. Davis new
battalion commander recently re
placed Lt. Col. Merle Goodrich.
Colonel Davis who graduated
from West Point in 1937 served
with the 1st Cal Div until 1941. He
was with the 14 Cav. Gp. Mech.
in 1942 and 1943 and the 106th
Cav. Gp. Mech. in France Ger
many and Austria in 1944 and 1945.
He served with the Allied Com
mission in Austria from 1949 until
1951 and was chief of staff of the
4th Logistical Command at Leg
horn Italy 1951 and 1952.
When asked his opinion of his
r.ew command he said "We have
a very fine collection of men who
appear enthusiastic and alert and
are willing to do the job. With
this combination of material plus
the proper leadership on the part
of the officers the battalion should
be formed into a well-knitted or
ganization ready for combat and
will bring much credit to the 1st
AD."
Colonel Davis also said that he
is very pi'oud to have been select
ed for this position and feels that
it is a distinguished honor for him
self as well as all other person
nel to have the chance to take
part in the organization of training
of a Hq TK Bn.

Suttle has returned from Minne
sota with his wife.

Able Co has been a beehive of
activity the past week. With the
assigning of 15 cadre and 80 trai
nees Able Co has gone into opera
tion after 6 months of caretaker
status.

During the past week this unit

just had a floor refinishing job

Mr. and Mrs. John M. Kees fa
ther and mother of Pvt. Jimmy
Kees were on the post visiting
their son. Pvt. Kees was permit
ted to reside off post while his
vacationing parents were here.
Lt. John H. Wallace is away on
leave where he will further be as
signed for overseas duty.

Sgt Harling is homeward bound
on a 15 day leave also.
In the return soft ball game be
tween the Cadre and trainees the
Cadre took the honors in the 14th
inning. The final score NCO's 9
trainees 8.

assigned to the Arty School in Ft.
Sill Okla.
Lt. Donald J. O'Brien is spend
ing a 23 days leave prior to ship
ment overseas.

ed the 1st of July and will end
the 1th of July. PFC Girod went
to Middle Point O. where he visit
ed his wife. SFC Cecil G. Carpen
ter S-3 Sgt went to the 4005th
where he will receive his discharge
sometime next week.
The battalion las a whole is work
ing together getting ready for the
parade the 15th of this month. Ev
ery afternoon from 1500 to 1600
the members of the battalion are
practicing marching together in
battalion formation. Progressing
the way they are by the time nf
the parade the battalion should be
the sharpest in the whole division.

Lt Douglas E Butler will report
to Camp Bullis for a three week
CBR course.
The supply and administrative
personnel have been working long
hours endeavoring to improve the
records and filing system of A
Btry. In order to do this they have
had to work several nights.

are doing a fine foy of presenting
Cadre training.
Cpl Goodenough left on a 15 day

pleted the projectionist course at
the film library.

ver will be leaving for Fort Sam

Joe McCarthy is the only mana

major leagues. He piloted the Chi
cago Cubs to the flag in 1929 and
the New York Yankees to the top
