Time.
Sail Francisco Chronicle.
Tho daughter of Cuptain of Po
lice, W. It. Thomas, presents u
peculiarly interesting case to mod-
ioal men. She is (riven to oatalep-
tio trances in which slio remains
for weeks without regaining con-
Bolpusness. At one time she slept
five weeks and at another six. She
is now sufferirg from ono of tho
attacks. Her body is rigid, aud
all appearance of life has departed.
It is over fivo weeks since she went
iuto the tranco, and at no time
sinco lias she regained conscious-
ness for more than au hour. For
four weeks sho slept without onco
waking, but now sho wakens onco
every twenty-four hours and re-
mains awako for a few minutes.
She takes no nourishment all this
time, but does not loso flesh or
strength. In fact, during a six
weeks' tranco, though taking no
food, she gained betwoen four nud
five pounds in weight. At times
she is sensible of what is going on
•round ber, but is incapable of
indicating tho fact. Medical skill
has exhausted itself in tho en
deavor to effect a cure, but the
tranoes seem to bo beyond the
skill of the physician.

Fritz Heiner is a professional

did not always pay his taxes
promptly, nnd one <(ay while ho
was hard at work digging a grave,

pcrceived a dark shadow between

he preceived a deputy sheriff.

Drink Water Jlofore Jlrealtfnsl.
According to Dr. Louf, when
water is takon iuto the full or
partly full stomach, it does not
mingle with tho food, as we are
generally taught, but passes along
quickly between the food and tho
lessor curvature, toward tho pylo-
rus, through which it passes into
the intestine. The secretion of
mucus by tlie lining membrane is
constant, and during tho night n
considerable amount accumulates
in the stomach ; some of its liquid
portion is absorbed, and that which
remains is thick and tenacious. If
food is taken iuto tho stomach
wliou in this condition it becomes
coated with this mucus, aud the
secretion of tho gustie justice and
its actions are delayed. These
facts show tho value of a goblet of
water before bioakfiiuf. This
washes out tho tenacious mucus
and stimulates tho gustie glaus of
secretion. In old and feeble per
sons water should not be taken
cold, but it may be with great ad
vantage then taken warm or hot.
This removal of ftotfiuuejatt?) i
cus from the stomach is probably
one of tho rensons why taking
soup at the beginning of a meal
has always been found bo bene-
ficial.—Ex.
