The man meeting called or voters
of the Hereford Independent Reboot
District at the courthouse Monday at
ternooa to nominate four names to go
on the ballot for school trustees nest
Saturday was poor In point of members
but rich in quality. Homer Wilkinson,
who had been asked to preside. Intro-
duced Judge Knight and the latter
made an excellent short address on the
school taws and facilities of the state
and stressed the importance of educa-
tion and the responsibility of parents
to their children's education.
After which it was explained that of
the present board of trustee* three.
Maadames Guthrie and Harrison and
A. O. Thompson, held over for another
term while four. Messrs. Parker.
Hughes, Oberthler and Miller, retired,
and It was necessary to vote on their
successors next Saturday. April 1.
The question of the service of the
present board the past year was thor-
oughly discussed and the hoard given
high praise for lack of friction while it
was In office and for the generally good
conduct of school affairs the past year.
Man after man arose anil endorsed the
personnel of the present board and the
work of the teacher!* this year. The
chair was authorised to appoint a
committee of Ave to canvass available
timber and bare tbeir names put on the
ticket for Haturday's election. The
chair was further authorised to take
his time and make no mistake In select-
ing Ave committeemen who would be
fair and impartial and hold the good
of the schools before their eyes.
Following this business a remarkable j
demonstration of good will and loyalty j
to the present board followed. Finally
a resolution was introduced by Carl'
Gilt Hand expressing the sense of the:
meeting that the work of the board of
trustees and the teachers this yesr had j
been good and satisfactory and that the
meeting expressed its endorsement and !
approval of tbeir work. The resolution
carried unanimously. Many talks fol-
lowed expressing the hope that the com-
mittee would nominate the retiring
members as a whole for reelection.
Both Mesdame* Guthrie and Harrisou j
who hold over, stated that the board ;
this year bad been harmonious, that'
each and every member bad a certain
work to perform, that a plan of work ,
bad been mapped out that was not yet ;
completed, and frankl; urged that the ,
committee, whoever they might be.
would nominate the four retiring mem-
bers so that the work would not be in-
terrupted.
The meeting was a dandy in point ofI
unanimity and cheerfulness, and one of
the Attest public endorsements of the |
work of a board that could have been,
