time after 1-192, and throughout
the many years of his long resi-
dence here he has grown in wealth
and streugth. uutil within th# past
twenty years his friends have not-
ed his diminishing vitality uuder
a progressive form of neuritis.
This dread malady slowly
spread through his whole system
until a state of mortification be-
came evident, when on January
16th, 1919. his near relatives with
tear-dimmed eyes watched him
slowly descend into those realms
from which uo traveler returns, to
discourse on the bracing air of its
torrid regions.
Many years ago he was united
iu marriage to Miss Slippery Poli-
tician and to this union were horn
five sons and three daughters.
The oldest son. Sloth Barleycorn,
who survives his father, is at pres-
ent an inmate of the county house.
Burglar J„ a younger brother has
long since been a free boarder at
the Hotel-de-Prison.
Assassin B. departed this life
a few years ago, through an over-
tightened neck-tie.
Bibulous F. came to his sad end
through an ailment which the
medical books call snakitis. and J.
Lunatic, got into trouble like one
Win. Hoheu/.olleru. by thinking
that by divine right he was the
ruler of this mundane sphere.
Of the daughters, it may be sat 1
that Scarlet Jane departed this
life while yet in her teens. Mary
Miserable who early died with a
broken heart had a bright futnr"
and Molly Voluptuous whose chit f
aim in life has been to make its
stream putrid has preceded her
father to worlds beyond.
He has left behind to mourn his
departure, many grand and greji?-
grand children, whose names are;
Hate. Disease. Poverty. Crime.
Lust. Corruption.
He had been a patronising,
faithful and generous friend, for
from communities from which ho
extracted #10,000 annually he was
willing to return $500 in the way
of a license fee, and from cities
where places he afterwards sold
twiee as mueh as formerly still hb
generosity wonld prompt him to
offer to the authorities $1,000 a
year for the privilege of selling
less. Such a life of disinterested
through the enlargement of the
heart, had it not been that the
end was hsstened through s mil-
up with Prohibition Dryness who
slowly but surely weakened hla
frame bt his clever upper-cut*
aud side jab*, until on Thursday
January lti, Heavy Weight Neb-
raska in round 'thirty-six** ad-
ministered a savage blow in the
solar plexus which proved to be
the knock out-blow.
And now John is gone, gone to
a region so dry tha« with all his
wealth he will not Iw able to pur-
chase one drop wherewith to cool
hi* parched tongue.
(tone, (tone Never to return
and since we never will again have
the privilege of passing his bier
let us arise ami sing. "I*rai*e (ro«l

GAMBLE WITH
THE GIANT
YOU MAY THINK you atc not a gambler, but you Are. Life is
all a gAmble. It's a gAme of chAnce from before you Are born to
After you Are deAd. You gamble every time you cross a crowded street
—«v«ry time you ride in An Automobile. Now, we asIc you to gAmble
with us on An oil well. We'll drill it right there in the PAnhAndle,
close to your home, as neAr the center of the district as we possibly csn.
100 per cent Guaranteed
IN ORDER to fAcilitAte the work of drilling by getting subscriptions
on record in a hurry we're going to give you 100 ptr cont mm m
dond if you are in on the first allotment. This means you'll have to
hurry. Don't nogloet (Ms ehmmem! Buy today—NOW. Mow, komomi,
the first ones to come in just naturally get a bonus of one additional
share frmm for each one bought and they get preJN if we win.
We'll Drill You a Well
EVERYBODY is buying oil stocks and some of them are fine buys.
All that we are agreeing to do is to drill you a well right in your home
territory. We'll drill it soon, too. If we get oil your share will be
worth a fortune and you will be made rich by the increased value of
your farms and ranches. If we don't get oil you lose what you invest.
It's a gambling chance. But, rmmombor, you are hotting on your
own home property. Every place in the Panhandle will be affected if
we get a well.
Speed Counts
THE FIRST MAN on the subscription books is entitled to twice as
much as the last man in. That's logical, isn't it? The books on
this allotment will be open Aug. 2 to 5. But the time for you to buy
is right now.
Millions Will Be Made
WE'RE GOING TO PLUNGE right into it with the same sort of
pep that we're putting into the campaign to sell this stock. And we
won't lot you bo tooiod. We won't even let you take a big risk. The
least you can buv is ton mhmrom for ono dollar or ono thoumand stores
for $100. We won't let any one person invest a bigger sum. We
know we might not get oil and you'd lose your monev, so we're playing
the game safe with everybody.
The Oil is There
JUDGE J. M. ELLIOTT, of Memphis, writes to E. C. Noble, presi"
dent of the Giant Company, on this point. You know both of these
men. Mr. Elliott quotes figures on a well drilled in the direction of
Newlin and near old Saulsbury. Elliott says this well passed through
flvo oil *mndmf at least one of which was "pmymtutf." But the well was
never completed. The hole caved in and they ran out of money, or
something of that sort.
